The Habiba Learning Center

ONLY AND EXCLUSIVE FEMALE VOLUNTEERS ARE ACCEPTED IN THIS PROGRAM.

Key to our vision here at Habiba is our Learning Center, which is located on our farm in Nuweiba. We currently provide an after-school education program for local Bedouin women and men . The academic subjects which we cover include Arabic, English and Math. We believe strongly however, in a teaching that is beyond the books: skills and life-lessons. In virtue of this, many of the activities we run involve subjects such as: Music, Art, Ethics, Social Responsibity and caring for one's environment. We invite the community members to get involved in the farm and teach them the importance of producing healthy food.

Teaching and Other Activities

We are devoted to the concept of Applicable Education. We teach Geometry through lego and meccano, Biology through observing plants and animals, Math through functionally applied methods (using recyled materials). The Learning Center is also dedicated to advancing the particular skills or interests of each individual, and encouraging development of these skills.

The idea behind the Center is to provide community with a place in which they can be free to interact with one another and express and persue their interests. We are convinced that it is important for every one to have a positive and practical environment in which they can explore the world, learn and develop their skills. It is everybody's responsibility to create this enviroment for them.

We are keen on teaching how to manage resources efficiently and how to reduce waste. It is essential for Bedouins to understand that the world they live in is not only for them but for the generations to come as well.

We hope that our vision and goals will be an inspiriation to Nuweiba and to the rest of the world.

Typical day

Volunteers will interact with community members and transfers their knowldge and skills tothem, main while they will learn about Heritage and Bedouinhabits and culture.

Free-time activities

While you're volunteering, we will help you pursue other subjects that might be of interest to you, we believe that you should learn like a student and live like a tourist as much as you work.

A good example is joining the Habiba Camel Riding School, which will offer you the standard three-day camel riding course that will teach you how to feed, load, and ride your camel in a professional manner. The course entails a list of survival skills such as following the starts for directions, learning about dangerous plants, finding edible plants, and finding water in the desert. All instructors are Bedouin natives of the Sinai, all camels descend from pure Sinai breeds.

Furthermore there are numerous dive centers, which will be ready to offer diving courses.
