Teaching a Baby Class

Baby class is a class of kids from 3-4 years old. They are starting a school and need to learn and know more

The volunteer work for five hours a day  from 9;00a.m - 3;00p;m and for five days a week from Monday - Friday only. The program entails the little kids  who needs  love from a volunteer and attention. We are driven into the van to a project  for ten minutes drive and we  spend five hours interacting with the kids. The babies will spend 3 hours with a volunteer then after lunch they will be taken to a place to sleep for one hour and waken up at 3;00p.m to go home.

They are from 3-4 years of age. They need to  to colour the pictures ,letters or numbers. Colouring takes one lesson of 45 minutes.Another lesson is Joining which enables a child to know how to join a letter or a number or draw a picture. It takes 45 minutes teaching a child to join the letters or numbers. If a child is unable you hold the hand of the kid to show how to colour or join.We also have modelling using clay modelling to make a letter or a number.

Within baby class they are those who learn first and have already known how to join now they can copy. The class which also takes 45 minutes in copying and sometimes reading the number or letter which we call sound.Sounds enables the kids to learn faster.

Typical day

A baby class is an interesting class of little kids who love to play colour  their books and at one time spoil their books while writing in any how.

They need some short songs, poems, plays and drawings. At the same time they love to mold and make clay modelling in form of letter and numbers. They are happy to colour and join and read pictures.Reading excites them a lot for they would love to see what they are reading with their eyes.

They shout numbers and read sounds while they enjoy the sounds they pronounce.

At break time they play and enjoy the day.

During lunch they eat and go to sleep waiting to be waken up to go home at 3;00p.m .The baby class lessons and play end at 12;30 noon time.

Details on Arrival

Our volunteer program works according to the government school schedule. Schools in Kenya are open on 3 non consecutive months and there is a school holiday for 1 month. Take example this calendar year 2017; schools were open from the first week of January to end of march and currently(April) have been closed on a one month holiday after which classes will resume on May's first week till end of July and a one month holiday in August. Classes then resume first week of August till late November to give way for the Christmas holiday in December. In between learning terms, (eg. January to March) schools are given an allowance to have mid-term holidays that usually last about 4 days, this is not compulsory and school principals can decide to do away with it.

This rules apply to Kenyan junior schools(baby Class to 8th grade and high schools(form 1 to form 4) except for universities.

Learning is done only during business days which is Monday to Friday and not on weekends break time they play and enjoy the day

Free-time activities

Free time is  basically from Saturday and Sunday. But is a volunteer wants to go on safari then we can arrange with the volunteer on days available for the safari depending on when the touring company has allocated the volunteer time for the safari.Otherwise from Monday to Friday is very busy days and very tiring because it involves the kids. They have the energy to play and take a lot of energy from those who teach them. In case volunteers what to do something after the school they normally can shop from the supermarket around,or take coffee as they relax in a nearby shopping center. We orientate the volunteer on the arrival day to be familiar with the market places, shopping malls and supermarket where to buy his or her personal items.

Most volunteers after school take time on computers to write what they have done within the day and also to communicate on social media with their friends and families and Skype
On weekends the volunteers  chose to go for safari which is three days two nights.Mostly it is at Amboseli,Masai Mara, Naivasha and Nakuru. At Naivasha they go to hells gate,Others go to magadi soda.We also have Mt.Kenya Trekking and the equator.
Those who would love a better relaxed place they go to Mombasa at the beach.
We also have the animal elephant orphanage, the giraffe center and the museum.
