Teaching Assistant At A Special Needs School

Teach and play with children who have different disabilities. Help them to get accepted in society and make them smile!

In the Patandi school about 800 children with and without disabilities, learn together. The Special Needs Unit, however, is a little separated, in order to address the special needs of children. The children in the Special Needs Unit have deterioration in vision, hearing and mental impairments such as learning disabilities and trisomy 21.

People with disabilities face different challenges in Tanzanian societies: Often children are neglected because disabilities are seen as punishments of the parents. It's really had for adults to find jobs, many roads are not paved and access to medicine, physical therapy etc. is very limited. Here special initiative is required, engage yourself and your abilities. You will support the teachers in everyday teaching and taking care of the children. The children are divided into different classes depending on their disability. You can practice songs with the kids, teach, beautify the school/classrooms and let your creativity run freely.

For this project, you don’t need special knowledge. It is of course advantageous if you are studying  special education or similar or had an educational training. It is also mandatory to be open for the children who come from various backgrounds.
