Teaching Assistant

Volunteers will help teachers with different subjects such as English, Arts and Sports.

The Schoo in Quito is an institution of social help located in Quito’s old town, and  it has worked in benefit of its students for around 129 years. It gives educational services to 382 children from kinder garden to 2nd year of high school. Children who attend this school usually come from families with limited economic resources. 

Volunteers can help by taking care of the children or give their help in the Areas of English, Music,Arts, among other areas depending on the volunteer’s skills.(Due to the low level of English in plublic schools, it is very important the support of foreign volunteers who can help to improve the  children's English skills )

If the volunteer wants to stay longer than 3 months, a volunteer visa will be required. Volunteers have to pay a additional fee in order to receive the required documents for the volunteer visa.

Typical volunteer tasks during the day:

  • Volunteers can help in the area of Psychology
  • Volunteers can help at the Dental Care Center
  • Volunteers can give their assistance in the area of Social Work.
  • Volunteers can help by preparing didactic material as well as by organizing didactic activities for the children.

Free-time activities

Volunteers usually visit the town centre which has a lot of museums and beautiful churches. Besides museums and churches, volunteers can also visit the Teleferico in Quito. It is a cable car that leads you just a few hours on foot the Pichincha volcano. Another touristic atraction that is located near from Quito is the Pululahua crater. Volunteers should also visit the Panecillo and the middle of the world monument . Other touristic places that we recommend are Quilotoa lake, San Pablo lake, Cotopaxi national park ,Antisana ecological reserve, Otavalo,Mindo, and Baños.

You can volunteer at the project site in Quito/Ecuador between 4 weeks and 12 weeks. Please note that the above shown program fees are estimated and subject to exchange rate fluctuations. New Horizons Ecuador will tell you your final price during your application process.
Average Fees
Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment will be agreed with New Horizons Ecuador during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
