If you speak or teach English, come and help us continue teaching the children.
We recognise that English is very important for an ever globalized and competitive world,
hence we have developed this project in order to aid learning.
Speaking English in Peru is very important due to the good job opportunities it can provide to those
who can communicate effectively in the language.
However, many people cannot afford to study another language, especially children. Therefore,
our Teaching English programme is very important, as itworks alongside the the curriculum in local schools
giving students who would not normally be able to study English, the chance to do so.
The children at the heart of our project com from low income families, with many being the victims of neglect,
physical and/or mental abuse. Unfortunately, it is the case that they are not currently helped by any other agency
or private or public institutions. Social welfare provisions in Peru are limited.
We work with around 1000 children aged between 4 and 12. Children are separated into classes of around 25,
with sessions taking place during the morning and afternoon.
It is the volunteer´s job to prepare and carry out the English classes for the children across the range of age groups.
During classes, volunteers will always work in pairs and for the first few sessions,
one of the volunteer coordinators will also be present in the lesson to supervise until all parties are confident in their role.
Basic English is taught to the children. The lessons should be derived from both internet sources and workbooks.
During the summer holidays (which are the months of January and February), the children are taught swimming,
basketball and yoga with continued English lessons.
Assistant teaching English program:
We take a dynamic approach to teaching the children and so lessons are activity-based and interactive.
There are lots of games and songs to keep the children engaged so they can enjoy learning in a fun environment.
These methods differ greatly from those usually used in Peru and it is extremely rewarding
to see the children keen to study English and learn more.
- Giving english classes to the kids (focusing on grammar and pronunciation)
- Working hours: flexible; Monday to Friday, 4 - 5 hours per day, all other time is free.
We offer the chance for university students to have an internship in teaching English to the children .
For those studying linguistics and/or ESL (or similar categories),
this would be a great opportunity to use what you have been taught in college or fulfill that internship elective.
For anybody who would like to have more teaching experience
(ex. for those who are studying to teach or studying other majors in college),
this would also be a great opportunity to get teaching experience.
Teaching English in a foreign country can give you more experience than you can imagine
(not only in the area of teaching English but also in other areas of life).
This opportunity can provide invaluable work experience which will help prepare the applicant
for future jobs in this field or other fields.
