Teaching English

The children who don’t have much of a chance to get a proper education. Would you like to come here and help? Volunteering in Mai Chau, Vietnam to teach English

Have you ever joined in the minority ethnic community in the mountainous area to see how their life’s going? Especially for children who don’t have much chance to get a basic education. Would you like to come here and help? The volunteering in Mai Chau, Vietnam to teach English is the right choice for you.

What does the project do?

VVS believes that Education is fundamental to human progress, enabling individuals and communities to acquire essential skills and knowledge in order to improve life quality.  But for some minority ethnic children, basic education is limited. The education program will be a solution for this matter. The projects can be undertaken in a short and long-term basis depending on how hard to change  traditional education methods of learning a foreign language, which is a lack of English native speakers so we need your help. Via this project, VVS would like to bring a helping hand from volunteers to the minority ethnic children who are offered a good opportunity to integrate into the community & for a better future.

About the Location

The school is located in Mai Chau which is the home to Thai ethnic group. They often settle in separated villages and are very far from the highway. The forest is one of their cradles to provide food and other resources for their lives such as wood for building house, agricultural tools and also to build the schools for children and so on. Living standards are lower than normal and their education is basic as well.

The village is also a fascinating place which is truly mountainous area in the Northwest of Vietnam with rich nature. 2km away from Mai Chau town, the village is situated among the lush green paddy field. Characterized culture of Thai people with Xoe – Hoa dance, traditional weaving, and many local festivals are organized every year. By participating in this program, volunteers also have the chance to interact with the specific culture of Thai people with many different clans, each clan has a special culture and you can also learn how to work with weaving brocade. Besides, you also have the opportunity to take part in a variety of social activities such as camp fire, cultural exchange art. With a warmly rustic way of living of people here, it partly mounted people who came to this village for the first time to become familiar, many of whom became his friends.

About the School

Coming to the school, we’ll be warmly welcomed by 160 students. In the lessons, they put their heart in the lesson as we learn a favorite song. However, all the furniture is in poor condition and the lesson is basic as well, no open-minded books and others related to a basic education. In order to bring hope for a better education, VVS would like to give an opportunity for worldwide volunteers to help with a variety of activities such as: teaching English (mainly) and planting trees… or any bright ideas from you as you go along.

As the school is still poor at present, so we need a lot of support from volunteers in term of providing study materials such as pens, books, notebooks, toys, and anything you have that you think it is good for students or can support them in study. It would be great if you could bring a guidebook or something to describe your beautiful country so the students can learn about your country and gain knowledge of the world.
