Teaching English/arts and crafts/social sciences/etc. to the underprivileged Nepalese at Nepal public schools.
Interns/Volunteers participating in TLC’s Program will teach various English language programs at our partner schools Since English language is the most essential
language today. Learning English helps develop our clients’ and students’
development whether scoring better in their exams or provide better employment
Starting with basics of the language, the students or kids in our partner schools are delighted if they are able to learn simple, short sentences, which enable them to understand English and express themselves in the same language. Other than that volunteers according to their qualification and experience will be involved in teaching other subjects as well. Volunteers mainly assist the local staff or the staff of the schools and evolve new ways of teaching in a play-way method.
Other than that you can also introduce or involve yourself in extra/co curricular activities which most public schools lack. The children would enjoy these activities.
Volunteers are mostly placed in primary/secondary school placements in our partner schools, or at teaching high school students in grades 8, 9 & 10. .
Note: - Volunteers do not need to be qualified teachers to join this program.
After waking up in the morning and doing your morning chores and having a meal with the family you will be going to TLC's partner School and teaching the assigned class. The books will be provided y the school. In between there are a few breaks where you will interact with teachers and students. During the lunch break you can join the other staff or if your guest house is nearby you can go home and have your meal. After the lunch break you will again go to your assigned classes. During free periods you can correct assignments or prepare for your lessons.
During weekends in and around Kathmandu you can do plenty of things. TLC staff will help coordinate the activities and at a reasonable rate you can go for short hikes in the mountains, visit temples or world heritage sites, visit parks or go on a stroll to a very famous Thamel which is a tourist hub famous since the 1960s. TLC coordinators will be there to assist you.
Volunteers are picked up from the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu by the local staff or coordinator and taken to a guesthouse or your host family's house.
Accommodation is provided on a shared basis in a local Nepalese family home. The home stay accommodations are neat and provide a comfortable stay during your volunteering period in Nepal. All accommodations have running water, electricity (as and when provided by the Nepal Electricity Board because Nepal suffers a lot from power cut) and all basic amenities.
2 or 3 Nepalese meals will be provided in this project depending on your work schedule. Typical meals provided include Dal (Lentils), Rice,Vegetables, Chicken and meat etc.and at other times famous Nepali momos (dumplings), roti (flat bread), chowmein etc.
