You will support teachers, organize workshops & art classes, & connect with passionate students. In addition you will assist with administrative tasks via online teams.
The International Humanity Foundation (IHF) is seeking forward-thinking, dynamic individuals of all ages/backgrounds to contribute to our international centers as part of our Volunteer Work Study Program. IHF runs children’s home in Nakuru, Kenya with approximately 50 children, as well as education centers in Bali, Medan, Banda Aceh and Jakarta, Indonesia.
Our foundation is run entirely by volunteers just like you, who have made commitments ranging from two weeks to multiple years. You will be supervised and guided by long-term volunteer co-Directors at your center, who will listen to your ideas and work with you on a daily basis.
You will leave IHF with new highly transferable skills, a better understanding of international NGOs, and an unforgettable experience that will last the rest of your life.
About the role
As a Voluntourist, you would gain hands-on experience with an international not-for- profit NGO at the ground level and contribute your time and talents to substantially helping provide better opportunities for young people.
You will complete four hours of at-center work a day. At our Medan Education center, you will teach English to young students for whom English is a tool to secure better jobs in the future. In addition, you will provide the co-Directors with needs-based assistance in the daily maintenance of the centres, becoming a part of the IHF family and integral to the work we do.
This is an ideal opportunity to gain first hand experience in international development, but still have time to explore a new place and culture. In Indonesia, our centers offer unique insights into Balinese Hinduism, the busy capital of Jakarta, or the beautiful and wild Sumatra where Aceh and Medan centers are based. You will have plenty of time to visit these incredible settings, but work must remain a priority. By both volunteering and sightseeing, you will have a unique experience, and hopefully you will leave our center with a better understanding of your surroundings and IHF as an organisation.
You will have 4 hours of local tasks daily.
For your local tasks be prepared to have them vary from day to day.
On any given day in Medan you will:
Assist in teaching English to young students -- providing a tool to secure better jobs in the future.
Organize projects and activities to enrich student's lives through art, geography, science, and anything in between!
Provide the co-Directors with needs-based assistance in the daily maintenance of the centres
Free-Time activities are self-designated by volunteers. Our long-term volunteers and local volunteers can provide you with many suggestions about the best places to go, and guide you towards adventure!
Weekday leisure activities include visiting the traditional market, going to Merdeka walk to try out a variety of local cuisine, visiting Maimun Palace, and talking a walk on the beach.
There are also a variety of options for your day off/weekend activities. You can amaze yourself and your friends by seeing an active volcano at Berastagi. Or, maybe you want to visit the famous crater lake, Lake Toba, and Samosir island. If that's not your style, feel free to stop by Sipiso Piso waterfall. Or, if you are into hiking camping, and rafting, see the sights at Bukit Lawang. And if you really just want to see something amazing, visit the Orangutan national park nearby.
We have dormitory-style living quarters. There are shared bathrooms and kitchen facilities at our center, and there is a possibility that you will be sharing a room with other volunteers at the center.
Our cook comes every day to prepare lunch and dinner for those living at the center. In Indonesia, it is customary to cook once a day, and eat that meal for but lunch and dinner. As such, this is how we serve our meals at our centers.
All meals are self-serve. Meals are eaten interdependently or family-style with other volunteers.
Breakfast will be provided separately.
