About the Program

This is a unique opportunity to experience Nepal with a difference that leaves a lasting impression! The opportunity to stay with multiple families in different regions of Nepal can be arranged. All placements include the elements of Home Stay and Cultural Exchange Program. Volunteers live with a traditional Nepali family. This provides volunteers with an opportunity to learn about all aspects of Nepali life, culture, food and people in general! This makes for an overall more exciting experience for the volunteer. Nepali culture is distinctively friendly and open and participants are made to feel as though they are part of the family. 

Volunteers will benefit cross-cultural experience through the cultural exchange program. The program is suitable for anybody, family, individual groups. There is no age bar for this program. This program is targeted to anyone who has a keen interest in Nepali cultures & traditions. After completion of intensive Nepali language training, volunteers will stay with Nepali family in village through participation in village life, volunteers will experience the different local culture, while sharing their own culture and custom. Also, the volunteers will have the opportunity to visit and help out at the local schools & orphanages.            

If you like exploring Nepal while doing volunteering in Nepal and at a same time have an interest in learning specifically more about Local cultures & traditions, food, meet with local people in the communities, then this can be the right volunteering program for you!       

The Location

Anyone who choose to volunteer in Nepal, they can work for meaningful programs as well as at a same time they can explore the natural beauty of Nepal, experience the exotic Himalayan adventures and enjoy a very warm a welcoming cultures of Nepal where you can meet wonderful people living with Nepali host family!

During your Nepal trip as a volunteer in Nepal, there are many adventure travel opportunities in your weekend or even take some time gap from your program. In order to spend your weekend you can go visiting one of the Asia's Largest and most beautiful tea gardens in Ilam (Eastern Nepal) where you can see the majestic views of carpet like rolling hills covered with teas, or go wild in jungle safari or take a time gap for going to the lap of the Himalayas for Trekking adventures!

Typical day

There is no typical working day. Your working time is flexible. But you can expect to work 5-6 days a week about 6-8 hours a day. All the other time is your free time where you can relax, go on some adventures or discover the surroundings.

As a Volunteer in this program, your activities will be:

  • Experience Home Stay and Cultural Exchange Program.
  • Meet & Interact with local people in the communities.
  • Explore Nepal, Nepali Life style, local cultures & traditions, Food, People etc.
  • Make a real difference by Volunteering in Nepal projects such as Schools, Orphanages, etc.
  • Enjoy the Spectacular Natural beauty of Nepal and many more. 

Details on Arrival

This program is all year round program, so available throughout the year! We are flexible with dates and duration. 

Free-time activities

Well, in the free time, you can have the opportunity to visit nearby villages to experience typical Nepali life.  

You are welcome to go on short hiking trips to experience the wonderful nature of Nepal or simply relax and do some yoga in our beautiful village. 

During the weekend you can go short trekking in Mountains, rafting, or on safari etc. 

We recommend you visit our most beautiful places like Ilam, Bhedetar, Gufapokhari, Taplejung and many other interesting places etc.

Program Requirements

In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s). Of course, there is an exception for children that are accompanied by their parents.

Accommodation

Volunteers will be provided with a spacious separate room on single / double occupancy basis. The rooms are very clean, with good peaceful, homely and family environment. Neat and clean Bathrooms are available for sharing.

Food & Beverages

All meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) during your training period & placement, will be provided according to the Nepali menu. If you have any special dietary requirements or any food suggestions we provided it to you according to your own need... for example for vegetarian we can provide vegetarian foods only!

Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees.
Flight Tickets
The nearest airport is Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) in Kathmandu. We assist you to find cheap flights to Nepal.
Travel Insurance
Going abroad is an adventure and it is always best to be prepared. Sudden illness or injury, cancellation or theft - a travel insurance for Nepal provides security and is a plus to have.
Vaccines
If you are intending to volunteer in Nepal you should seek medical advice before starting your social journey. Check your required vaccinations for Nepal.

You can volunteer at the project site in Kathmandu/Nepal between 4 weeks and 12 weeks. Please note that the above shown program fees are estimated and subject to exchange rate fluctuations. Indra Foundation will let you know about the final price during your application process.
Crowdfunding Service
Generally, volunteering abroad involves certain costs. In case you need financial support, we will assist you to fundraise your volunteer program in Nepal.
Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment will be agreed with Indra Foundation during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
