Come and explore South Africa as you travel along the famous Garden Route taking in the amazing views of pristine white sandy beaches, lush green forests and peaceful lagoons.

Our action packed 25-day group adventure has an abundance of activities from seeing the famous Big Five on safari, learning to surf, bungee jumping, hiking, diving with sharks, canoeing, swimming under waterfalls, wine-tasting and so much more!

We’ll be sure to visit all of the must-see stops along the way, including Hermanus, Knysa, Jeffery’s Bay, Tsitsikamma, Hogsback, Coffee Bay and more!

Before heading off to explore the Garden Route and the Eastern Cape, you’ll start off with two weeks volunteering on one of our amazing projects located in Cape Town. You can lend a pair of hands in our day care centre, teach within the local primary school or observe in the nearby hospital (medical students only).

Typical day

Your first couple of days will allow you to meet the local staff and for you to get the hang of everything. You will typically be volunteering from 8:30am to 13:30pm Monday to Friday with a one hour lunch break.

You can choose to volunteer on a number of our projects, including childcare, teaching or medical.

Our local team will pick you up from Cape Town International Airport and take you straight to our volunteer accommodation around 30 minutes away.

Free-time activities

Not only will you have the satisfaction of helping on rewarding projects, but you’ll also have lots of free time to explore the amazing Cape Town. From climbing Table Mountain, topping up your tan on the picturesque beaches, partying on Long Street or admiring the penguins on Boulders Beach there is something for everyone.

Program Requirements

In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.

No restrictions. Helping hands from all over the world are welcome.
Other Skills
To work on a medical placement you must be suitable qualified or in training.

Your helping hand will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 08:30 - 13:30

Before your journey

Profound consulting and ongoing support (free)
The Mighty Roar (your host organization) provides consulting and is keen to answer all your questions. Once you reserved your spot, you will receive the contact details of your volunteer project.

On-site services

Services by The Mighty Roar

Registration of $180 included in the price. Airport pickup, accommodation and food & drink are included in the fees.

Airport Pickup at Cape Town International Airport
Our local team will pick you up from Cape Town International Airport and take you straight to our volunteer accommodation around 30 minutes away.

Return airport transfers are not included within the programme fee, and cost around $21. It is more than likely your fellow travellers will be heading in the same direction so you should be able to split the fee up between everyone.
Accommodation
During the first two weeks in Cape Town you will be staying in our volunteer house located in the Observatory district. The accommodation is within a more affluent and quiet neighbourhood but with everything located close by.

You will be sleeping in mixed gender rooms with up to 8 people per room in bunk beds. There are shared bathrooms that have western style toilets and hot showers.

The communal area has comfortable sofas, a flat screen TV and DVD player. There is Wi-Fi available for a small fee and lockers where you can store your valuables (please bring along a padlock).

Food & Beverages

 During the first two weeks you will receive a continental breakfast and then dinners will be provided at the local restaurant and will be a variety of Western meals.

When travelling, meals will mainly be provided at the hostels or at a nearby restaurant.

All of the meals that are not included will need to be purchased by yourself. During your time in South Africa you will have access to many shops and restaurants that provide a wide variety of food. Our local team will let you know the best places to eat out.

Dinner – Chicken, pasta, rice, potato, burgers, vegetables

What's NOT included?
Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees.
Flight Tickets
The nearest airport is Cape Town International Airport (CPT) in Cape Town. We assist you to find cheap flights to South Africa.
Travel Insurance
Going abroad is an adventure and it is always best to be prepared. Sudden illness or injury, cancellation or theft - a travel insurance for South Africa provides security and is a plus to have.
Vaccines
If you are intending to volunteer in South Africa you should seek medical advice before starting your social journey. Check your required vaccinations for South Africa.

You can volunteer at the project site in Cape Town/South Africa between 3 weeks and 3 weeks. Please note that the above shown program fees are estimated and subject to exchange rate fluctuations. The Mighty Roar will let you know about the final price during your application process.
Crowdfunding Service
Generally, volunteering abroad involves certain costs. In case you need financial support, we will assist you to fundraise your volunteer program in South Africa.
Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment will be agreed with The Mighty Roar during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
