Experience Mamoní

Tropical Organic Agriculture Internship (2018)

An internship designed to advance your understanding of nutrient cycles, microbiological processes, and the relationship between humans and produce.

Experience Mamoní is accepting applicants for January 2018 onwards, with interest in organic agriculture and landscaping to participate in our Tropical Organic Agriculture Internship. You'll work together with other interns, volunteers and staff to make the grounds of our Centro Mamoni both productive and beautiful. Areas of focus include:

  • Permaculture

  • Aquaculture

  • Closed-loop farming systems (human, plant and animal waste)

  • Bio-intensive gardening

  • Plant-microbe interactions

  • Organic pest controls

  • Growing/researching new species

  • And more....

All interns are responsible for documenting their experiences and aiding in the creation of an open-source and publicly available best-practices "manual" for tropical organic agriculture in the valley. Each intern will be an intellectual contributor to our on-site community at Centro Mamoni, helping to craft a culture of learning and doing that serves as a model for visitors, neighbors and peers.

Program Requirements

In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s).
Language Skills
You need to speak English (basic level) and Spanish (basic level)

Nationality Restrictions
No restrictions. Helping hands from all over the world are welcome.
Other Skills
You should be able to demonstrate a passion organic agriculture and a commitment to learning.
Time Commitment
Your helping hand will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 08:00 - 17:00

What's Included: Pick-up/drop-off at the airport; transportation between the Preserve and the Panamerican Highway; food and lodging at Centro Mamoní; any paperwork you might need for your school; personal help and mentoring from on-site staff. What's Not Included: Airfare to and from Panama; special trips; medical costs; junk food.

Airport Pickup at Tocumen International

Experience Mamoní facilitates airport pickup if you arrive before 4:30pm. If you arrive after 4:30pm, we'll still have a staff member meet you there, but you'll have to set yourself up with a hotel room (something that we can help you with if you let us know before hand) and we'll bring you up to the Preserve the next day.


Guest, staff and volunteer houses are open-air architecture in order to facilitate a more immersive experience. For protection from insects, residents sleep in tents with mattress pads.

Food & Beverages

Meals are largely vegetarian, and are well cooked and hearty. All volunteers will participate on a rotating basis with preparation and cleanup of meals.

Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees.

Average fees

You can volunteer at the project site in Chepo/Panama between 4 weeks and 50 weeks. Please note that the above shown program fees are estimated and subject to exchange rate fluctuations. Experience Mamoní will let you know about the final price during your application process.
Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment will be agreed with Experience Mamoní during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
