Wildlife Education

Our mission is to inspire and educate underprivileged children to care for their environment through the medium of a wildlife orphanage

Every Monday DAKTARI welcomes a new group of 8 to 10 local underprivileged children who stay with us for 5 days.

As a volunteer one of your main tasks will be teaching the children our syllabus. We have structured lessons and activities for each day of the week and we will provide you with a lesson guide before you arrive so you can familiarize yourself with the material you will be teaching. However, we will be here to help you with the lessons and there will be other volunteers who can also help you out! In addition to this, you will be working alongside the children in the daily maintenance and care of the animals who live at the wildlife orphanage.

Through these experiences, you will give the children the opportunity to discover, learn and become passionate about wildlife and conservation, their heritage. You will also supplement their school curriculum by teaching classes in basic English, maths, sciences, geography, life skills, educational games and social issues.

The children are in 8th grade, but they vary in age from 13 to 16 years old. Personal attention is something that they are not used to and this is why they really get the chance to blossom at the project. This makes it a great opportunity for you to adapt to the children and be creative in your teaching! They go home as different children and that has a lot to do with the attention they receive from people like you.

The best advice we can give is for you to really enjoy your volunteer experience and make it into a two-way learning opportunity. We want you to leave with the feeling that you have made a positive impact, not only on the children, but also on yourself.

No specific skills are required. We just need your passion and enthusiasm.
