Help take care of exotic animals that have been rescued and assist with environmental education! Experience the Costa Rican rainforest! This volunteer program is especially suitable for:
Age 18+

At this volunteer project, you will have the chance to work with exotic animals. The wildlife sanctuary is privatly owned and cannot rely on public funding, so it is in need of volunteers and donations. Due to its tight budget, volunteers are crucial to the center’s development and goal to improve conditions for its animals. The center strives to conserve, protect, reintroduce, and raise several wild species that have been removed from their natural habitat.

The center was awarded the Ford/Jaguar Cars International Conservation Award, which gave it more funding and grants to continue its work. The center also has an education program, which educates local people on the wildlife and how to protect it.

The center is home to around 500 animals, and 100 of them are able to roam free without being disturbed. There are more than 80 species of animals, such as spiders, monkeys, tapirs, birds (such as green macaws), various reptiles (snakes, crocodiles, iguanas, etc.), and different types of felines.

Typical day

There are many different areas that you will work in during this project. Daily tasks may vary, but will most likely revolve around reintroducing animals into the wild and caring for injured animals.

When reintroducing animals into their natural habitat, you will help prepare them to protect themselves and hunt. You will also build new grounds for incoming rescued animals and help animals suffering from serious injuries. You will also help the team with educating tourists at the center and show them the grounds.

During this project, you will work on teams and help make a difference while also raising awareness for the protection of animals in Costa Rica.

Free-time activities

Weekends are the perfect time to enjoy an exciting hike through Costa Rican nature since the main attractions of Costa Rica is its system of national parks and protected areas, which cover around 25% of the national territory, in order to protect the rich variety of flora and fauna, which is estimated to contain 5% of the world's biodiversity in less than 0.1% of the planet's land mass. In addition, Costa Rica has countless amazing beaches on both the Pacific and the Caribbean Ocean.

Costa Rica is the perfect place to combine volunteer work with tourism, enjoy activities like:
