Prepare food for animals,feed and clean animals, maintain cages, clear trails, guide tourists
With this volunteer programme you get the chance to work with exotic animals in the middle of Costa Rica´s rainforest it also gives you the chance to promote animal protection and faunal biodiversity.
The center is not funded by the government and solely relies on volunteers and donations, due to its budget volunteers are crucial to its development in improving conditions for its animals. The center strives to conserve, protect, reintroduce, and raise several wild species that have been removed from their natural environment.
The centre was a winner of the Ford/Jaguar Cars International Conservation Award which meant it got more funding and grants in order to continue there work, the center also has an education programme which educates local people on the wildlife and how to protect it.
The center is home to around 500 animals with 100 of these able to roam
free without being disturbed, there are more than 80 species of animals such
as spiders, monkeys, tapirs, birds such as green macaws, various reptiles
(snakes, crocodiles, iguanas, etc.) and different types of felines or big cats.
There are many different departments you will be working in on this project from, reintroducing animals into the wild, reintergration of injured animals to safe custody of animals.
Each day will vary in this role, on a typical day you may be reintroducing animals into there natural habitat this will involve getting them prepared such as helping them with hunting and protection, building new grounds for incoming rescued animals, helping animals who are suffering with large injuries. You will also help the team in educating tourists on the center and taking them around the grounds.
On this project you will work in teams and help make a difference while also raising awareness of animal protection in Costa Rica.
On this programme you will have weekends free, this gives you time to travel around Costa Rica and indulge in its rich culture, you can also hike the mountains near the centre which has amazing views.
Yes you will be picked up on arrival and taken to your destination.
In your stay you will be with a host family in a private bedroom but with shared bathroom and living areas, this will help your spanish skills it will also give you an insight into Costa Rican life, helping you indulge in the culture.
Full board is provided (3 meals per day) usually consist of typical Costa Rican ingredients like rice, beans, sweet corn, meat, pasta, vegetables and seasonal fruits.
