Women's Empowerment Supporter

Women's Empowerment will play very important role for helping the women to empower their right and improving social, Economic and Gender equality.

Women play a key role in the family and society. Not only in Cambodia, but all over the world women are the ones raising the children, caring about the family but often also generating the family’s income. The program volunteers will work in aims at improving social and gender equality through advocacy and the promotion of information sharing and communication. Women's Empowerment  for Social Change is designed to help women exercise their rights in a balanced way and can build competence to become self-sufficient, with improved women's participation in social, economic and political life, the program also provides capacity building, forum discussions on key women's issues and research on women. This program will help the volunteers to learn a lot about the issue from vulnerable women in Cambodia because mostly, the volunteers go to work in the community for studying about the problem that they face with.  This project can lead volunteers to work with poor and vulnerable women in community in order to help them to provide more education and counseling on women's right. Women's Empowerment support also give the chance to volunteers to share idea for making business plan for poor and vulnerable women in order to support women in business and development. Qualify volunteer need to be flexible and want to learn more from the poor and vulnerable people in community. At least, volunteers need to have intermediate level of English and have educational background in related to the fields.

Typical day

Volunteers will assist local staffs with writing on reports and proposals. They will use their English skills to correct reports of the local staffs and participate in meetings and workshops. They will help with improving the program and work together with the local staffs to empower women and educating them about their rights. Volunteers might get the chance to conduct interviews or assist staffs doing so. They will closely participate in the activities related to Women’s empowerment and learn about gender issues in Cambodia.

Free-time activities

Every volunteers will get the weekend off. There are many places volunteers can visit at the weekend including the Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda, Wat Phnom, National Museum, Killing Field... Volunteers can also travel by bus to visit many provinces at weekend or during national holiday such as to Siem Reap to see Angkor Wat, the famous historical place or Sihahouk Vill and Kampot to see beaches. Phnom Penh is a very international city, you will find a lot of western bars, supermarkets offer western articles, and especially the riverside is the spot for diplomats, travelers and international NGO-workers. But of course, you will also find the Cambodian Culture everywhere in the city. Walk around the different markets, try the food of the food stalls at the street or just walk around the streets, there is really always something to explore. Phnom Penh is a good base for trips through the country as it is very central.

Airport Pickup

One of our team will wait you at the airport. When you arrived at the arrivals area please look for a sign with your name written on it. We will bring you to our volunteer guest house and usually it take around 30 minute from the airport. On the way our team will explain you about safety and what prepare for tomorrow orientation.

Accommodation

The guest house is located in the center of City and are within minutes of many of the major tourist attractions. The guest house feature large roof decks for lounging, restaurants servicing local and western cuisine, Wi-Fi, computers, bicycles for free rental, and laundry service. Most volunteers share room with other volunteers, however, private rooms can be booked for those that desire.

You will be provided with three meals a day for breakfast, lunch and dinner at each of our guest houses. Khmer cuisine shares many commonalities with the food of neighboring Thailand and Vietnam and commonly contains rice, vegetables, or noodles. Breakfast typically includes coffee, tea, and juice with bread or eggs. Lunch and dinner meals typically consist of rice, noodles, soup, vegetables, beef, fish, pork and fruit.

You can volunteer at the project site in Phnom Penh/Cambodia between 6 weeks and 24 weeks. Please note that the above shown program fees are estimated and subject to exchange rate fluctuations. Asia Volunteer Network will tell you your final price during your application process.
Average Fees
$165/week
Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment will be agreed with Asia Volunteer Network during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
