Work with Disadvantaged Children

Taking care of the children and adolescents, organizing recreational activities

The project

By volunteering on this project you will be given an insight on the situation of poor families in Peru that live on the margins of society and are fighting to survive each day. A large amount of sympathy is required to socially rehabilitate the young people, to gain their confidence and to integrate them into the society.

There are specialized personnel who are in charge of caring and educating the children aged 5 to 18 years old, the main objective of these institutions is to help the children with the processing of their - often traumatic - experiences in their families and to give them a better perspective for the future through good education.

Volunteers are always welcome at these centers since they are so under funded, during your time here you will form relations with children and colleagues making lots of friends.

Your Work

On a typical working day your tasks will include helping the workers care for the children, helping with activities that stimulate intellectual and social development, organizing and participating in games, helping with homework, teach subjects such as English and art.

People who wish to volunteer on this project do not need any special skills or experience, but they need patience and a positive attitude. It is also very important that you can work independently and show initiative because these centers are very under staffed and you will be working without a lot of supervision.

Always keep in mind that you have a role model function for the often traumatized children.
