Zoo Assistant

Support the permanent employees at the local zoo in the Peruvian Central Andes with various daily tasks like taking care of animals.

We are grateful for volunteers that want to work at the local zoo which is located in Huancayo, in the Peruvian Central Andes.
At the zoo there are more than 100 peruvian amazonical and andean species of animals like pumas, lions, peruvian bears that are almost extincted as well as pantheras, snakes and condors.
As a volunteer you will support the local staff with feeding the animals, giving them medical assistance, cleaning their cages, rescuing them from mistreat and giving them a proper shelter. Other tasks that might occur occasionally are helping to maintain the area in general, doing gardening, building, painting, drawing, designing banners, guiding groups and making workshops, activities and shows for children and visitors.

For participating in that project at least 3 hours of working every weekday are required. It can be chosen if the workhours should take place in the morning or in the afternoon.

Free-time activities

Huancayo is the biggest city in the Peruvian Central Andes and is surrounded by beautiful mountain areas.
There are heaps of things to do in and around Huancayo. If you like outdoor activities you can go hiking there and climb up the Huaytapallana, a more than 4,000 metres high glacier next to Huancayo. Or you can take a walk around the Golden Forest (Bosque dorado) or around the National Park Area of Torre Torre which consists of impressive natural stone pillars.
In Huancayo there are also interesting museums, churches and a vibrant nightlife. It is also possible to take part in various workshops like cooking, handcrafting or knitting.



What's included?
We provide a room and full board for the volunteer at our home place.
The fees also include three meals every day that we usually eat together.
At our house you can use the laundry for free and you have access to internet via wifi.
The fees also include the use of water and electricity. At our bathroom we have a shower with hot water.
Please be aware that you have to pay for your transport. All transport fees like for bus tickets or taxis are not included.
What's NOT included?
Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees.

Airport Pickup

the pick up service from cruz del sur`s , ayacucho and pucallpa terminals is included
you are going to meet Joseph, who will be with our logo and your name written in an orange banner


We provide a room at our house which is located in the district Chilca of Huancayo.
Around the house there is a terrace as well as a big quite courtyard with a lot of free space.
For your use we will provide bed linen and towels. The room contains all the necessary furniture.
If you like to you can watch television at our living room.
All meals will be served either at our small kitchen or at our dining room.

Guest Family
Food & Beverages

We will serve typical Peruvian food three times a day, for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
If you like to prepare your own meals feel free to use our kitchen area.
In the morning we will serve continental breakfast. For lunch we provide a hot meal according to traditional Peruvian food style. For dinner we will serve sandwiches and hot beverages.
Please be aware that you can not drink tapwater in Peru. So if you need additional water between the daily meals you will have to buy it by yourself.

You can volunteer at the project site in Huancayo/Peru between 2 weeks and 50 weeks. Please note that the above shown program fees are estimated and subject to exchange rate fluctuations. Peru Peru Volunteering will tell you your final price during your application process.
Average Fees
Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment will be agreed with Peru Peru Volunteering during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
