Feeding animals, cleaning cages, building new enclosures, ... You can be a real zookeeper in Hungary!

Being a part of this projects offers you a real animal experience where you can be a real zookeeper and you can expand your experience with (exotic) animals! Beside that, you can enjoy the nature of the beautiful country names Hungary!

Repzootic is expanding. That means there are a lot of cages to build and a lot of new animals to arrive.

About Repzootic
Repzootic Animal Experience and Education Center is a non-profit organisation who gives educational lessons in whole Europe about keeping exotic animals in captivity. We breed some (endangered) species and some rare breeds of Hungarian pets. A lot of our animals came to us after they ware kept by misinformed people. Now they can stay here for the rest of their life and enjoy our lovable care!

About us
We're a young Belgian couple who moved to Hungary to start this education and experience center with our very loved animals. We're in the animal business for years and we still love every single creature. We have a lot of experience with exotic animals and we would love to teach you what we know!

Our animals
We have a lot of different animals at our site. Most of them are small mammals like foxes, wolfdogs, porcupines, mongooses, marsupials, small cats, rodents and more. But also reptiles, amphibians and a lot of birds do live at our center. This amount of animals can teach you a lot about their needs, their husbandry and more. A very special experience for any animal lover!

Friend for life
What's a better friend than a friend who shares your interests? We work with a lot of volunteers and students, so it's possible you won't be alone in this job. Sharing an accomodation and helping each other as zookeepers, you can learn a lot and most of al; make a lot of fun!

Typical day

Being a zookeeper means:

  • Feeding the animals and cleaning their water bowls
  • Observing the animals
  • Making some enrichment for them
  • Help them when they are in (medical) need
  • Learn about them
But also
  • Cleaning their cages
  • Building some new enclosures
  • Gardening around the enclosures
  • Give educational lessons to groups

Hungary is a land where you have plenty of time. We don't rush and we don't scream. We love our animals and we give them the best care we can. After that, without rushing, we can do some other maintaining jobs but we can also love our nature and country.

Program Requirements

Minimum Age
In order to join the program you need to be at least 16 years old on the program start date.
Language Skills
You need to speak English (basic level)
Nationality Restrictions
No restrictions. Helping hands from all over the world are welcome.
Time Commitment
Your helping hand will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday

Free-time activities

Volunteers will have the possibility to visit Pécs. Pécs has a zoo, a lot of shopping malls, sport centers, swimming pools, musea and monuments and more. In the villiage Erdosmecske, where the center is located, you can enjoy the nature every moment of the day. There's a possibility to go for a walk.



What's included?
For this fee you get: A transfer from and to the airport in Budapest. An accomodation at our project site. The possibility to work with all our animals. Breakfast.
What's NOT included?
Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees.

No worries, Volunteer World supports you in raising funds, checking your visa regulations and travel insurance. We also assist you in finding the cheapest flights for your journey.
Airport Pickup

We can pick you up at Budapest airport and bring you to our project site. It's a 2 hour drive. Meanwhile, you can enjoy the beauty of the Hungarian nature!


We offer a guesthouse (max 4 persons) for our volunteers and students. When there are more people at our location, the rooms can be shared. There's also a kitchen, a bathroom, toilet and bethrooms.

Food & Beverages

We only offer a breakfast, every day. The guest house offers a complete kitchen and food in Hungary is very cheap.

You can volunteer at the project site in Erdosmecske/Hungary between 1 week and 50 weeks. Please note that the above shown program fees are estimated and subject to exchange rate fluctuations. Repzootic Animal Center will tell you your final price during your application process.
Average Fees
Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment must be made up to 30 days before to the volunteer program starts. This payment is also securely handled by PayPal or credit card.

Depending on your nationality, you have to arrange your visa for Hungary. Please check the visa regulations for Hungary.
Generally, volunteering abroad involves certain costs. In case you need financial support, we will assist you to fundraise your volunteer program in Hungary.

The nearest airport is Liszt Ferenc International (BUD) in Budapest. We assist you to find cheap flights to Hungary.
Travel Insurance
Going abroad is an adventure and it is always best to be prepared. Sudden illness or injury, cancellation or theft - a travel insurance for Hungary provides security and is a plus to have.
