Your benefits from volunteering with us

You'll reach the hard-to-reach. We are a small, locally run, Kenyan organization that aims to provide direct volunteer support to the local NGOs and schools that don't have their own effective means of reaching you.

You get a greater value for your money. As a locally-based company, our costs are extremely low in comparison to foreign-based volunteer programs.

You benefit from our partnerships. You can choose from a wide range of projects to suit your needs. They are not just names on a list; we know the staff and have visited all the projects in person. Check out our Volunteer Projects.

Your opinion counts. Each project offers you a distinctive chance to make an impact on decision making and program development.

You will be immersed in Kenya culture. You'll be living in a typical Kenyan neighborhood working at a NGO with local Kenya staff. Our staff will explain the basics of Kenya culture to you and are always willing to answer the smallest or largest of questions on Kenya culture.

You determine your experience. Our programs offer freedom and flexibility, allowing you to utilize your specific skills in a variety of ways. Once you realize where your help is needed, the potential for positive change is limitless. We offer volunteer, internship, and research opportunities.

About the project

Kenya Volunteer Travel  was born out of a genuine concern for the suffering that is apparent in the area where we live and work. We observed the growing popularity of volunteers  travelling Kenya to do volunteer work  and we wanted to use this trend to benefit the underprivileged population the NGOs and schools in our region serve.

We found that funding restraints, language barriers, and housing shortages meant that many small, local NGOs had to reject potential volunteers because they had no way to manage them. Additionally, we were disheartened to see the huge prices attached to many larger volunteer placement organizations when we personally knew how affordable living and working in Kenya can be, especially for volunteers coming from abroad.

KVT was created to make an avenue through which international volunteers can come and offer their services. We comprise of a small group of like-minded local people who aim to identify and place international volunteers where they are most needed: in emerging, small scale, grassroots organizations that lack the necessary means and organization to attract and accommodate international volunteers, but would benefit greatly from outside assistance and knowledge. There are a multitude of local projects   here that are desperate for voluntary help – whether it is from skilled or unskilled volunteers.

Our Mission is to promote peace, social justice, sustainable development and intercultural understanding through volunteering in Kenya and outside Kenya.

Why choose us

Affordability

KVT has developed a reputation as volunteer organization  in affordable volunteer travel, with thousands of volunteers traveling with us every year. By working directly with local projects  in the  places where our programs are based, we are able to keep our fees low and ensure these go towards meaningful community projects and local employment.

Safety

Volunteer safety is a top priority of KVT  which is reflected in our outstanding safety record. We have clear standards for risk management which we enforce on each program and our volunteers are placed with trustworthy institutions, organizations and families that have all been screened . KVT staff members conduct regular audits of every program to ensure risks are appropriately mitigated and to confirm that we are meeting our duty of care for volunteer safety and security. We also have a big focus on supporting volunteers to keep themselves safe while in Kenya, and we provide this support and advice through pioneering volunteer training tools and through face-to-face briefings delivered by our local teams.

Friendship

In addition to forming life-long friendships with host families and the people they assist while volunteering, our volunteers also form strong bonds with their fellow volunteers. Although they come from vastly different cultures and backgrounds, the experiences that volunteers share forge strong ties that can last a lifetime.

Why we need you

KVT  actively seeks local teams that offer quality projects in genuine need of volunteer assistance. Whether your stay is a short or a long one, our  local coordinator  will ensure that you make a valuable contribution to support the long-term development goals of your host community.

Loyalty

Loyalty is one of the foundations that  KVT  has been built on. We show strong loyalty to the communities in which we work through setting up long-term partnerships with local schools  and institutions. This allows us to make a long-term contribution to the social needs and economic prosperity of the communities where our volunteers are placed.

Enjoyment

At KVT  we recognize that there is more to an awesome volunteer travel experience than simply volunteering. While we maintain a strong focus on providing top quality programs, we also understand that many  volunteers are first-time travelers and want to make time for sightseeing and exploring. To ensure that you get the best ,, We  have established partnerships with local travel companies to provide our volunteers with access to trustworthy travel and tour activities.

Our Goals

To connect international volunteers with local projects in Kenya both urban and rural areas.

To improve local projects through volunteer work .

About our Country

Going global can be an exciting experience and nervous at the same time. Regardless of where you are in the world, safety can never be guaranteed. However, Kenya is considered to be a safe country comparing to many other African nations. It is politically stable and one of the few that haven’t had civil wars in recent years. No health requirement is needed.

The volunteer we need

We are looking for volunteers the unskilled and skilled ,young and old .
