Volunteer in helping giving access to clean water communities in El Salvador. This help improve the health and daily lives of all recipients.

Some volunteer duties include:

Help create popular education workshops about the environment or hygiene for those who participate in our clean water program.

  • Translate documents such as: results, testimonies etc for donors or publicity.   
  • Help teach people how to install and use their filters.

Help create popular education workshops about the environment or hygiene for those who participate in our clean water program.

  • Translate documents such as: results, testimonies etc for donors or publicity.   
  • Help teach people how to install and use their filters.  
  • Discuss with program participants them how their life was changed, how eating habits and hygiene are also important in order to evaluate the program. Take pictures to document work done by grassroots workers. Monitor clean water committees which function in each community and work together for more efficient and effective community organization.
  • As a bilingual volunteer, you will be the principal link between the grassroots workers and program beneficiaries and donors.

The CIS water program has two different parts.  
One distributing Sawyer water filters to families in organized communities.  Each family must pay for the plastic tubs to be used for the water, but the filter is given free.  Training is provided for health and sanitation and how to use, clean and maintain the filters.  Many families report having better health and attendance at school/work due to better access to clean water.

The second half is working with Clean Water for the World and installing water purification systems in places such as rural health clinics and schools.  This system not only provides clean water for students or clients of the clinic, but also has a tap for public consumption and people can carry water back to their homes.  One health clinic had such positive results they reported that they had more time and economic resources to devote to different problems because the amount of water-borne illnesses had dropped so dramatically.

El Salvador is a beautiful country with many attractions close by. The CIS employees and homestay families are both happy to help you find things to do in your spare time that interest you most. Some of the highlights include: The 'Ruta de las Flores' or the flower route, which is located in a mountainous coffee area and is known for hikes, waterfalls and crafts. The beaches of La Libertad: A string of beaches about an hour away from San Salvador, known for surfing and tourism. El Tunco beach specifically is a hotspot for nightlife and surf lessons El Boqueron is a volcano on the edge of San Salvador with a place to walk near the top of the crater and has great views. On the way up the volcano, there are many beautiful restaurants with great views and also an eco-park for nature walks. Volcanoes Santa Ana and Izalco are great hikes. They are in the same area and hikes leave from the same park. Izalco is a steep uphill climb on gravel, and Santa Ana has a breathtaking view of a turquoise sulfur lake from the top. In addition to these, there are many beautiful other places. Some people even zip over to Guatemala for the weekend!

Um an diesem Programm teilzunehmen, musst du zu Programmbeginn mindestens 18 Jahre alt sein. Es kann Ausnahmen geben, wenn du die Erlaubnis deines/r Erziehungsberechtigten vorlegen kannst oder wenn du von deinen Eltern begleitet wirst

Sprachkenntnisse

Du brauchst folgende Sprachkenntnisse: Englisch (Fließend) oder Spanisch (Fließend)

Arbeitszeiten

Deine Hilfe wird an folgenden Tagen benötigt: Montag, Dienstag, Mittwoch, Donnerstag und Freitag von 08:00 - 16:30

Please, keep in mind that we cover 100$ extra fee for the administration in our program. This will include a one museum visit, program for orientation as well as training, program transportation, and coffee.

We also offer optional accommodation in a guest family for 90$ per week in a guest family's home.
This would include two meals per day as well as a humble but comfortable room which can vary in size and furnishing.

Unterkunft

You can request a homestay with the Family network for a volunteer price of $90.00/week.

This includes breakfast and supper. 

Families not only provide shelter, but also help orientate people in their new surroundings. They will help you find your way around and suggest places to go and things to see.
Accommodations are humble but comfortable.

Verpflegung

If you choose our homestay option you will get two meals per day, breakfast and supper.
