Interns joining the Microfinance and business program will be helping small entrepreneurs manage their business plans, loans and advise them on key decisions for better growth. Interns can also help in workshops that range from basic financial literacy, marketing, accounting, data analysis, and more.

Depending on the intern's profile, skills and interests he/she can be assigned to different areas. Different from the program in Costa Rica, interns in this program work inside the lending organizations that also provide financial education to their clients. Interns must speak basic Spanish and are preferred to have a background in finance, economics, accounting, marketing, and related fields. Intensive Spanish lessons are also available in Guatemala before starting the internship.

Possible tasks:
  • Analyzing loans and feasibility studies from within the lending organization.
  • I.T and automation of databases (If the intern is familiar in this field)
  • Accounting
  • Financial literacy workshops.
  • Loan management training workshops.
  • Marketing workshops.
  • Following up on business plans of loaners and advising as needed.
  • Analyzing clients’ business plans previous to taking out a loan.
  • Smart use of technology and training in ready available financial tools.

  • 7 am : breakfast with host family
  • 7:30 am: walk to project
  • 8am : meet with project staff to oversee daily tasks
  • 1pm: lunch time
  • 4pm: Project work time ends
  • 7 pm: Dinner with host family

Integrated Learning Experiences was founded in 2005 by former Peace Corps staff that wanted to provide flexible volunteer programs with a positive impact.

Integrated Learning Experiences’ (INLEX) mission is to strengthen human resources in Central America and South America through volunteer programs, educational travel and internship opportunities.

In addition to this, INLEX provides opportunities for students and professionals to further gain experience in their field of choice by matching participants with the best opening available.

INLEX was set founded by former Peace Corps staff in Guatemala in 2005 who wanted to provide flexible programs for volunteers in Central America. This flexibility allows our participants the option to commit for as long as they want in the area they are best suited to support; creating a positive impact and a rewarding experience. We do this because we believe in the principle that every volunteer can make a difference.

Many years and happy people later, we continue working with key partner projects to develop communities in the Latin American region.
