Who we are? (Our history & team)
We are the Fundación Estación Biológica Bachaqueros and we dedicate our efforts to the participative ecological restoration around Colombia but with special strength in Caribe Region. Our organization started in 1993 and along these years has worked in ecological restoration, agroforestry, management of lands, land planning for community development among other topics.
Our team is made of professionals of diverse academic backgrounds, like biology, anthropology, pedagogy, music, and communication among others. Our Foundation works as a family and therefore sincerity, generosity and giving our best is what configures our relationships.
What we do?
We work to make possible the preservation of all life forms. For doing this we work along with communities to help them towards the transformation of their life into dignified and sustainable ways, we do research on the ways for restoring damaged ecosystems, restoring and preserving water springs, reproduction of endangered species and environmental education has of course an special place in our work lines.
FUNDACIÓN BACHAQUEROS has been working in the region for about 12 years now and the social impact we have been working to accomplish focuses on building alternative organizational and economic proposals that allow people to continue living in their territories but that this does not preclude that other life forms can benefit from their right to inhabit the same places. We understand humanity as part of ecosystems and consequently we find unavoidable the restoration of balanced and fair relations among humans and other life forms.
Therefore our actions pursue among other objectives:
- Transformation of environmentally unsustainable practices that diminish people life quality and jeopardize their welfare and ecosystems’ as well
- Creating along with communities economic alternatives to increase income without compromising the ecosystems they inhabit
- Qualify communities with new knowledge that enable them to improve their life quality and make the most out of natural assets available in their territory within sustainable models
- Give value and give visibility to communities’ environmental knowledge
- Protect and recover the water systems and the right of access to water
Where we work?
We work in the Caribbean Region in Colombia, an unspeakable diverse region that encloses different ecosystems and also diverse societies (Farmers, indigenous, and mestiza population). As in the rest of our country there are uncountable environmental and social problems and this can only mean one thing: Lots of work!!! This is why we have been happily and tirelessly working along these 30 years and we will continue.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for genuine caretakers of life in all its forms, people that are really interested in learning about nature and making this world a more loving place for every being. We would love to have passionate, active and critical thinking persons, of course "hands on the earth" is a must.
Why choose us?
We are a Foundation with very long experience in what we do, and we have kept our values undamaged all along this way. We are also highly recognised in restoration research and participatory methodologies to protect and help ecosystems, so if you are someone who cares about conservation and community wellbeing we are definitely a good option.
