You will be staying with a host family in the vicinity of the project. This is an excellent opportunity to get a unique, first-hand glance into Kenyan culture and traditions, while also allowing you to make long lasting connections with both your guest family and the entire community. At the place you will be staying at, you will have access to a bedroom (shared with other volunteers), bathrooms, kitchen, and other common areas. There is no wifi available, but you may buy a SIM card in order to have internet. There may be temporary cuts in power or water supply.
Three meals are included within the program fees and will be provided by your guest family. These meals will usually be prepared in the typical local style, as in at breakfast you have tea or coffee and fruit, cassava, sweet potato, pancakes or mandazi of rice with stew, spaghetti, ugali with cabbages or vegetables, githeri (combination of cornmeal and cooked beans) and Matoke (banana and chicken stew) dinner is similar to the main meal.
