Volunteer in the popular beach town of Hua Hin. You may be may involved in preparing the seeds and soil, watering the plants, and planting new mangroves. This volunteer program is especially suitable for:

This placement is centred around a local mangrove nursery, which is produces young mangrove plants for the local community. Your responsibilities may involve preparing the seed and soil, watering the plants, general caring of the mangroves and planting. A local farmer and coordinator will be there to provide knowledge and show volunteers how everything is done. You will be shown how and where to collect and sort mangrove pods, as well as everything you need to know about how to plant and nurse mangroves effectively.

You will also take part in other activities such as beach and community area cleaning, creating garbage bins, washing and sorting garbage, creating campaigns and educating the local community adults and children on the importance of sustainable environmental practices.

You will present talks on environmental awareness and conservation, recycling in the home, reducing your carbon footprint, how to separate waste properly, as well as broader topics like the effects of climate change and the need for environmental concern. An English-speaking coordinator will be there to support and help you out with any language barriers.

Location
Hua Hin, is a lively fisherman-town and popular tourist spot these days offering all the standard beach stuff like snorkeling, swimming, sunbathing and with plenty of restaurants and tourist things like spas, water park, golf, shops and markets. There is a mountain at the end of the beach called Khoa Tekiab, with a temple that overlooks the beach. Surrounded by national parks, it’s a mountainous region where you can explore waterfalls and caves on various adventures. Buddhism is very prominent here and you will certainly get a good taste of the Buddhist way of life.

Typical day

You will volunteer from 9:33am to 11:33am at the mangrove nursery, and then for another couple of hours on other projects in the afternoon (generally around 4-5 hours a day in total).

Free-time activities

Tuesday & Wednesday Evening
Volunteers have the option to go to the night market in Hua Hin city. Try some of the delicious local food that is freshly cooked in front of you. The street food is super cheap and tasty!

Friday Evening
You can go to the Cicada Market, a colourful night market offering freshly cooked food from different stalls. Look around the many art exhibitions, see the local handmade products and souvenirs and listen to live music featuring local artists.

Apart from chilling out at the beach, on weekends you can also try snorkelling, eat at the many seafood restaurants, play a game of golf, relax at a spa, go shopping, visit local markets (including a popular night market), and Hua Hin’s Vana Nava water park.

Khao Tekiab, a mountain at the end of the beach with a temple above, is also a popular spot, overlooking the beach. Hua Hin is also surrounded by beautiful national parks. A little further away is the Pa La-U Waterfall and the  mystical Phraya Nakhon cave for the more adventurous!

Airport Pickup at Suvarnabhumi Airport

Programs begin every Monday, and volunteers are required to arrive the day prior, for orientation before the project. Your accommodation on the Sunday is included in the program fees.

A free airport pickup is included when arriving to Bangkok BKK (Suvarnabhumi) Airport, Level 2, Entrance 4. You must arrive between 06.00 and 16:00 on Sunday.

If arriving outside the pickup times on Sunday, you can book a private transfer for US$50.

If arriving on Saturday (or during the week), you will need to pay US$50 for any extra night’s accommodation or arrange your own accommodation. You will also need to pay $50 for a private transfer to our accommodation.

Alternatively, if arriving early you could wait at the arrival’s terminal for the pickup time, book accommodation at the airport and meet us during the pickup times or make your own way to the project (we will advise on how to do this).

From the airport to the accommodation in Hua Hin, it takes around 4 hours by public bus and then a shuttle bus. 

Accommodation

The volunteer guest centre is really nice and located in the hilly countryside in lush surroundings and consists of luxury tents similar to standard hotel rooms and large rooms with a common area with hammocks to hang out with fellow volunteers. Rooms are up to 4 people in each room. There is wifi in public areas, water, coffee and tea are provided, fans, air con is usually on from 8pm-8am, a western toilet, bed linen, mosquito nets, and a safety deposit box (bring own padlock). You will have to do laundry by hand.


There are 3 room types available, with the private room costing an additional $120 p/room p/week and the comfort room costing an additional $160 p/room p/week.

A vegetarian breakfast and dinner (no lunch) will be served at the guest house each day. Occasionally some meat will be provided as well, along with seasonal fruits for dessert. During the afternoons, you will be in Hua Hin’s centre, where you will have many food options and eateries to choose from for lunch (not included in the program).

Flight Tickets
The nearest airport is Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) in Bangkok. We assist you to find cheap flights to Thailand.
Travel Insurance
Going abroad is an adventure and it is always best to be prepared. Sudden illness or injury, cancellation or theft - a travel insurance for Thailand provides security and is a plus to have.
Vaccines
If you are intending to volunteer in Thailand you should seek medical advice before starting your social journey. Check your required vaccinations for Thailand.

Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment will be agreed with Involvement Volunteers IVI during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
