As a volunteer in Ghana, you will be working with children from impoverished backgrounds at an orphanage or childcare. You may also work with volunteers or assistants at the center. Depending on your individual interests and skills, and on the needs of the local staff, your daily activities involve, but are not limited to:
How You Can Make a Difference
Due to this project, orphanages are able to stay afloat and provide the children with the necessities. Besides lightening the load of the staff, your participation as a volunteer in Ghana will be helping the orphanage to be financially viable. You'll also be the shining light for the children and bring about a fresh and positive energy in the orphanage. You'll also play the role of a friend and mentor to the children, turning them into confident individuals capable of believing in themselves. The love and attention that these children get from volunteers will uplift their spirits and put a smile on their faces.
The Ghana orphanage volunteer project schedule allows plenty of free
time to explore the various sites and attractions of the area. You can
expect to spend 7- 8 hrs per day,
Monday through Saturday, working on your project, and this allows
personal time in the mornings and freedom in the evening to explore the
local area.
Moreover, Weekends, are free days to volunteers. You may choose to travel out of town to see the many interesting sights and sounds in other parts of Ghana or hang out with your fellow volunteer(s) and/or locals in the neighborhood.
On the day (or night) of your arrival, SAMBA AFRICA VOLUNTEERING (SAVO) staffs will be at the airport to welcome you and transfer you to a hotel with air-conditioned rooms and restaurant only in the night of your arrival, Orientation and transportation to your assigned placement will be done the next morning following your arrival day but arrival in day time you will be transported to your destination (KUMASI).
The accommodation type we arrange for volunteers is the family stay type. This means that volunteers stay with a family as their host. Staying with a host family is very ideal and cost saving for both the volunteer and SAVO-Ghana. The volunteer gets to experience the culture closely and better whilst we also comfortably manages the security and safety of the volunteer and properties. In a room, each volunteer has to his/her own, a bed, pillow and bedspread.
Host families will provide volunteers with breakfast, lunch and dinner during the working week.
Breakfast is usually ready by around 7am; however volunteer can eat later if you prefer to get up late. Lunch is usually packed by your host family in a lunch box so that you can eat at your project if you wish. Dinner is usually served around 6pm.
If you have special eating needs, you can inform us. Even though special eating needs are not something we can guarantee, we will do our best to meet your needs.
