About the program

Too many Honduran children go to school on an empty stomach, having eaten nothing at home. We believe that having something to eat is fundamental to getting an education, as it allows children to concentrate and do their best at school and in their daily activities. That is why this project was born; an initiative to help these school children have at least one meal when they go to school. We strive to achieve this through volunteering, as volunteers can provide essential help to the child development centers in Honduras, teaching the children or helping them directly with their nutrition.

You can be part of this project and help our children, who are the most important pillar of our society, to improve their skills and knowledge.

As a volunteer, you will be helping vulnerable children between the ages of 6 and 15, many of whom have never been to school, by passing on your knowledge and equipping them with the necessary life skills. By helping the children to review or learn in these dining halls, you will empower and directly impact the learning process of the children and youth in the 3 communities we work with. One of the main objectives of the project is to encourage children to continue their education.

In the dining room, volunteers can also help in activities such as cooking, lighting the stove, bringing firewood, delivering food for the children and supporting the maintenance of the center. In addition, volunteers can collaborate by working in "la finca", a place where most of the food supply used by the dining halls is obtained; some of the vegetables we grow there are cucumbers, beets, onions, corn, cilantro and many others.

The farthest school is 7 kilometers up the mountain, approximately 1.5 hours from where you will be staying in a 4x4 vehicle. The rest of the schools and centers are all relatively close, 15 minutes by mototaxi (motorcycle cab) from your guesthouse.

Free-time activities

Honduras is a beautiful country in the heart of Central America with lots to offer to you: the bustling capital of Tegucigalpa, with historic buildings from the colonial era; many remains of the country's ancient Maya heritage, such as in majestic places like Copán Ruinas; remarkable landscapes such as in the Pico Bonito National Park, or sunny and sandy beaches and islands where you can go bathe and swim.

Some of our recommendations of places to visit are:
  • Cantarranas, a Honduran town filled with urban artistic expressions that are excellent ways to both understand modern Honduran culture and take very unique photos.
  • Lake Yojoa, a lake surrounded with national parks and an excellent hiking opportunity. At this place, you cannot miss the astonishing Pulhapanzak Falls!
  • Cerro el Picacho: An excellent hiking opportunity filled with scenic views, at its top there is a quite well-known cross called "el Cristo de Picacho".

Meet your organization

ADVENTURE VOLUNTEER is a non-profit organization, established in 2017. We collaborate in the social and environmental field through projects of conservation and protection of the environment and animals, as well as in the social part through projects of empowerment of women, community development, functional diversity, medical or teaching.

Our team of collaborators has a deep experience in international volunteer programs.  We know all the realities of the areas where we are working, collaborating and where we have a presence.

Our projects offer volunteers the opportunity to meet, share and participate in social and environmental projects. These projects demand educational and recreational activities that benefit communities of different cultures and customs, communities with economic difficulties and different degrees of social exclusion.
