Volunteer as a tennis coach in Ghana and give children the chance to play tennis in a fun, structured environment. Coaching tennis in Ghana is a great way to volunteer in Ghana while providing more tennis opportunities for young players. Also work on your own game and play against some real talent.
As an emerging sport, Ghanaian tennis has yet to make a strong impact on the international stage. However, the standard is steadily improving and the Ghanaian Tennis Association is keen to develop the country’s younger players.
Samba tennis coaching placement will allow you to work with these players, giving them the chance to have fun and progress in the sport they are most passionate about.
The main focus is working with children from schools in the township communities. You can therefore take on as much responsibility as you feel your expertise allows.
Your Tennis Volunteer Placement
Our tennis project is ideal for any volunteer who wants to get alongside young people through fun and enjoyable sports activities. The emphasis is on participation and there is no pressure to have any extensive coaching knowledge. The players are keen to take part and, with support from our in-country team and the local coaches, you will soon provide the forum for them to do so. And, if you have the confidence and desire to pursue them, we have a number of links with the top tennis institutions throughout Ghana . Placements have been secured in the National Tennis Centre and the Sports College. Here you can be placed alongside the top coaches and national youth squads. You can even try your chances against the African game yourself!
Your Tennis Coaching Role
Participants will have the chance to coach at a variety of different
levels depending on your experience and personal preference. Volunteers
start by being placed alongside the coaches at local clubs. Here you
will help run training sessions and organize games among the young
players. You will also be encouraged to work with players on an
individual basis, giving you the chance to introduce some of you own
coaching ideas if you wish. Some of your time may also be spent
‘spotting’ new talent at regular tennis clinics. Furthermore, you will
be able to coach and participate in the training sessions for the Junior
National Squads. These 12-16 year-olds are serious about the game and
have dreams of becoming the first Ghanaian to make a mark on global
tennis. Volunteers with a basic level of playing or coaching experience
are able to make a worthwhile contribution to the game and its
development in Ghana.
Weekends, are free days for the volunteers. You may choose to travel out of town to see the many interesting sights and sounds in other parts of Ghana or hang out with your fellow volunteer(s) and/or locals in the neighborhood.
Weekend trips available include visits to Mole National Park in the Northern Region of Ghana. This National Park offers a great Safari-like experience and is one of the biggest Elephant Sanctuaries in Africa with the chance to spot Lions, Leopards & Antelopes in their natural habitat. Volunteers can also take a trip to Cape Coast in the Central Region of Ghana to relax in the beautiful beaches and see the famous Cape Coast castle, the Kakum Canopy walkway and Elmina castle, where slave trade begun.

type. This means that volunteers stay with a family as their host.
Staying with a host family is very ideal and cost saving for both the
volunteer and SAVO- Ghana. The volunteer gets to experience the culture
closely and better whilst SAVO- Ghana also comfortably manages the
security and safety of the volunteer and properties. In a room, each
volunteer has to his/her own, a bed, pillow and bedspread.
Host families will provide volunteers with breakfast, lunch and dinner during the working week.
Breakfast is usually ready by around 7am; however volunteer can eat later if you prefer to get up late. Lunch is usually packed by your host family in a lunch box so that you can eat at your project if you wish. Dinner is usually served around 6pm.
