About the Program
Volunteers will help to improve the student’s pronunciation, assist in managing their homework, organize games and other activities in the learning center, and help to improve the children's listening and speaking skills. Hours can vary depending on the institution where the volunteer is placed and the hours that the volunteer wishes to work.
As a volunteer in center will give you the opportunity to teach and help students who are eager to learn and improve their abilities in English and other subjects. The students will also benefit from cultural exchange and different teaching techniques. Your main role will be to help for study, however you may have the opportunity to assist in other school activities such as sports and extra curricular projects.
At the center there will be around 10 to 20 kids to study and get support on their study through volunteers. All the families are very poor and could not arrange the extra tuition class for the children.They come to the center early in the morning and in thee evening. We provide the materials for the kids who comes to study and it is helping a lot for the students on their study.
All the parents are illiterate and could not support on their kids study at the home. volunteers can bring some story books with them and any school materials.
On our experiences volunteers are involving with the kids and there were enjoying with the kids. Mostly these placements are in the village around Pokhara.These centers are at the host families where are the volunteers are staying.
Depending upon the need, volunteers may be asked to assist in other extra curricular activities like sports. Your teaching focus will be:
When volunteers initially arrive they will spend their first 2-3 days doing orientation, taking the city tour and generally getting accustomed to volunteer life in Alliance Nepal before they start volunteer work on depending on your duration.
First Day: On the first day of the volunteering placement, the volunteers will be escorted to the project by local staff and introduced to the staff at the project you will be working with. The volunteer joins with the local staff. You will be given a duty roster and a plan for your work. There is usually a tea break and a lunch break.
Work and hours is dependent on the project and location that the volunteer is participating in. Mostly volunteers teaching at the center 2 hours in the morning 7.00am to 9.00am and in the evening 5.00pm to 7.00pm.
Volunteers on Alliance Nepal programs often form lifelong friendships with their host families and the people they assist on the volunteer programs. However they also form strong bonds with the other volunteers they meet, work and live with on their place.
For a small extra cost, participants will have the opportunity to join in a range of exciting recreational activities during their stay. We can organize trekking, rafting and safari as per your interest, but cost does not includes in our program fees. we can arrange the short hiking and long trek according to the time of volunteer. In the weekend, volunteers can go the safari to the citwan national park.
We provide the airport pick up according to your arrival.
Alliance Nepal manages room for volunteer. In most of the cases, volunteer stay with host family where we manage a separate room.
Volunteers get the tea early morning and daal vat at 9.00am. Light lunch at the school or a the orphanage in the afternoon. Dinner is about 7..00 pm. Family use only boiled water.
