Nursery class
A Nursery class is after a baby class where we have kids from 4-5 years .
They know how to copy and are learning how to read two letters like "in, at, on, is, if".Three letters word as "ten, hen" just like that.
With mathematics which is called number work they can add 1+1 and draw balls and get the answer by the help of the volunteer and teacher.They do hard addition like 5+5 and can get the answer.
They also learn Environmental which is to do with fruits kinds of fruits they eat and coloring so that to remember. They also draw pictures as hen, cat, flower as well as read them.
We have lessons like reading where words are written for them to copy in the book to be able to read again before the teachers.
Nursery class lessons are English,Reading,Math which is number work,Environmental,Creative.Once volunteers chose Nursery class you can teach any of the lessons.Our program is charity in education through teaching and helping out the kids work to be perfect in what the kids do and write.At Nursery level the kids can make a lot of mistake because they dont know how to copy well or read.The work of the volunteer is to assist in such areas.
Children who are in Nursery are those that have been enrolled to access free education at the school due to the cost sharing policy with the government that the kids need to cost share to be enrolled in a government school.I t becomes very hard for the kids whose guardian or parent has no job or income to be send to school.
Our program enables the poor, vulnerable, rejected to be received in school for lessons without any condition.They come with brains ready to be taught. A volunteer is oriented with one of us once at the project either to teach or help a child to do mathematics, or read or copy on the board work that has been taught and help in the marking books for the kids.The volunteer also will help in playing with the kid and serving lunch during the lunch break.
The volunteers work five days a week from Monday to Friday at school.After school some go for shopping others work on computers to write what they have done,others prepare lessons for the next day.While others skype to their friends and families;
Free time is basically from Saturday and Sunday. But is a volunteer wants to go on safari then we can arrange with the volunteer on days available for the safari depending on when the touring company has allocated the volunteer time for the safari.
Otherwise from Monday to Friday is very busy days and very tiring because it involves the kids.They have the energy to play and take a lot of energy from those who teach them. In case volunteers what to do something after the school they normally can shop from the supermarket around, or take coffee as they relax in a nearby shopping center. We orientate the volunteer on the arrival day to be familiar with the market places, shopping malls and supermarket where to buy his or her personal items.
Most volunteers after school take time on computers to write what they have done within the day and also to communicate on social media with their friends and families and Skype.
On weekends the volunteers chose to go for safari which is three days two nights.Mostly it is at Amboseli, Masai Mara, Naivasha and Nakuru. At Naivasha they go to hells gate,Others go to magadi soda.We also have Mt.Kenya Trekking and the equator.

Our volunteer program works according to the government school schedule. Schools in Kenya are open on 3 non consecutive months and there is a school holiday for 1 month.
Take example this calendar year 2017; schools were open from the first week of January to end of march and currently(April) have been closed on a one month holiday after which classes will resume on May's first week till end of July and a one month holiday in August. Classes then resume first week of August till late November to give way for the Christmas holiday in December. In between learning terms, (eg. January to March) schools are given an allowance to have mid-term holidays that usually last about 4 days, this is not compulsory and school principals can decide to do away with it.
This rules apply to Kenyan junior schools(baby Class to 8th grade and high schools(form 1 to form 4) except for universities
learning is done only during business days which is Monday to Friday and not on weekends.
