Ha Giang is considered as homeland of Snow Shan tea where the tea plant has its origins. In here, there are still many mountains where tea grows "wild" and is harvested by the local people. Ancient organic Shan tea mountains in Ha Giang are owned by the Red Yao, Tay, H'mong tribes. These tribes live in small and peaceful villages in the upper mountains; harvest and produce their precious tea from generation to generation.

The ancient Shan tea trees in Ha Giang have been recognized as national heritage trees, we focus on education, responsible tourism and local indigenous knowledge conversation. Aim to:

  • Improve the capacity for farmers in ancient Snow Shan tea villages by introducing livelihood models base their indigenous knowledge, include tea, develop these diversified livelihoods models
  • Enhance knowledge on the role of ancient Snow Shan tea trees for the income and food security of hill tribes, reduces poverty and increases resilience to the expected impact of climate change.
  • Focus on building entrepreneurial capacities of local youth to exploit business opportunities in relationship between tea and tourism, empowering them to start up local businesses and work off their own skill sets.

  • Nam Dan Old Stone Filed, This thousand year-old stone field inside the valley of Nam Dan has not been known widely by the visitors, but the beauty of the runic symbols on the rocks is very fascinating, The rocks here are various in types and design. They bear marks of the traditional beauty of the old art, as well as weather-beaten traces after a thousand years. Each stone represents a legend of ethnic groups about religion and beliefs, and their worship to the God and Ancestors.

  • Herbal bath: Restoratives are used to recuperate from illness, increase their appetite and build their resistance to disease. Local people are also very famous for their herbal bath. Drinking restoratives and having a herbal bath helps pregnant women recuperate after giving birth, stimulate their appetite and protect infants from disease via their mothers’ milk. The ingredients for medicines are plentiful within their natural environment and there is a great variety, including herbs in the forest or parts of the animal that they hunt.
  • You also take part in enjoyable market-day of local ethnics here. Some markets take place in the working days in the week. It’s a great opportunity to see the people of ethnic minorities, who came here traveling many kilometers from their homes. They sell mainly fabrics, animals and food.
