Program:

This camp will focus on Global warming and how we can fight this danger in our daily lives. During the camp, our teenagers will also have some photography sessions to learn how to get the most out of the cameras while being creative.

The teenagers will get hands-on instruction and experience with the tools necessary to research, compose, capture, and refine digital photographic projects. We will mostly focus on nature when it comes to topics and we encourage our participants to be creative. Iceland is a magic country for photographers, so we are sure that our group will have a lot of great photos and memories when they return home after the camp.

After breakfast we will head for our first adventure, and explore the south of Iceland. The Ring Road we follow features idyllic waterfalls, looming mountains, dramatic cliffs, ancient glaciers, and haunting black sand beaches. As part of this small-group tour, you will see Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls, Reynisfjara black sand beach, and the Reynisdrangar sea stacks as well Sólheimajökull glacier.

Accommodation: Krysuvík

Day 3 & 5: Volunteering & Horse Riding!

Krýsuvík is a geothermal and volcanic area in the southwest of Iceland. It is situated on the Reykjanes peninsula, about 35 km from Reykjavik. The name Krýsuvík means "bay of Krýsa," a folk tale figure from the area.

The aim of the project is to develop Local, Organic and Sustainable Agriculture. The main work of this camp will be to take care of the land, in various ways.

During our stay in this location we will also get the chance to go Horse Riding.

The Icelandic horse is as local to this volcanic land as its people. Being one of the purest horse breeds in the world it is also considered one of the friendliest animals ever. One of the Icelandic horse's most notable attributes is its five gaits!

During the evenings we will relax at the Local Geothermal Swimming Pool or at the nearby natural hot spring.

Accommodation: Krysuvík

Day 6: Whale Watching & Visit to Reykjavík

Today we will visit and explore City Center. Reykjavík is a city of bold contrasts: it is both cosmopolitan and small-town; vibrant and sophisticated; young-at-heart and yet full of history!

Afterwards we will head out by boat to find the giants of the sea!

Enjoy a magical journey into Faxaflói bay with an expert crew and specially trained naturalists. Explore the whales of Reykjavík under the excellent guidance of marine biologist guides and learn all about the incredible wildlife that call Iceland their home. (3 hrs. Aprox)

Accommodation: Krysuvík

Day 7: Golden Circle Excursion & Transfer to Project

After breakfast we will go for the number one tour in Iceland called the Golden Circle. We will see Gullfoss the beautiful double “Golden Falls”; the active geothermal area of Geysir, where we can see Strokkur “the churn” spout up to 25 meters (70 feet) every five to seven minutes. A visit to the ancient Viking Parliament area of Þingvellir National Park tops it off while we head to our second location in the northwest of Iceland.

Accommodation: Brú Suistanable Center

Day 8 to 10: Volunteer

We will participate in a Beach Cleaning activity! The plastic crisis is one of the major environmental challenges of our times. Plastic pollution impacts our health, water, tourism, fishing, and overall ecosystem. Plastic debris has accumulated in natural habitats from the poles to the equator. This program takes a bottom-up approach, focusing on how an individual can change their perception of plastic, understand responsibility, create motivation to contribute to combatting the crisis, and, ultimately, ideally change their plastic behaviors.

We work with the local community as well helping with the reforestation of the areas nearby.

In this location we will visit the Seal Museum in Hvammstangi, a museum designated to provide you with the information you need to fully enjoy the seals you can spot around Iceland´s shores.

Finish the day relaxing in the local geothermal swimming pool!

Accommodation: Brú Sustainable Center

Day 11: Travel back to Reykjavík

Travelling through the west to Reykjavik. Several stops to enjoy nature on the way; Glacier Lagoon, the world-famous Black Beach, and many more. Farewell party.

- Who are we?

Worldwide Friends (WF) was founded in 2001 as a non-governmental, nonprofit organization. Our aim is to promote nature and peace-oriented activities among people interested in spending time in Iceland as volunteers.
The staff of WF consists of 5 members:
  • Our director and founder - Toti Ivarsson.
  • 4 project managers: Valentina, Steini, Bjarki, and Sebastian.
Alongside the staff members, we have long-term volunteers that are crucial for our programs.
- What we do:
The main activities offered by WF Iceland are workcamps, exchange programs, and educational seminars. Our activities are suitable for anyone interested in discovering an exotic and safe destination. WF also sends Icelanders abroad who wish to have similar volunteering experiences elsewhere in the world. Our programs are a mixture of volunteering, excursions, cultural exchanges,  environmental work, and environmental education.
- Where we work:
Worldwide Friends is located in one of the safest countries in the world, the land of Ice and Fire, Iceland. We work all over the country but mostly in the east and west of Iceland where we have our two main centers. We try to have a balance between outdoor work and indoor work but most of the time it depends on the weather.
- Our mission/vision:
  • Promoting peace and friendship
  • Promoting intercultural education and awareness
  • Preserving Icelandic nature and raising awareness about environmental issues
  • Promoting voluntary work and a culture of volunteering
- Our goal:
To be able one day to live in a sustainable society that respects and protects the environment.
- Who are we looking for?
The biggest requirement that we have is that our volunteers must be interested in the environment. If you like to work outdoors, explore exotic locations, discover unspoiled nature, have a cultural exchange with volunteers from different countries, and improve your environmental knowledge then we are looking for you!
- Why choose us?
When you choose us, you are making the decision to volunteer with one of the biggest and more experienced organizations in Iceland. We have hosted thousands of volunteers in all these years, which grants us the opportunity to offer you the best experience possible.

In the volunteer I participated in, I worked in cooperation with everyone, but in addition, we all went to various places together. Among those experiences, there were a lot of scenery that I couldn't see alone. For me, it's like an adventure, but it's a very good memory that someone will always ...
I had an amazing experience in Iceland that I will never forget in my life. In renovating the house, I had to strip and file paint to clean the doors, and drill holes in the walls to run water pipes. I had never done anything like that before so it was a very new and valuable experience. I also ...

2024 at Ecovillage - One with Nature

I participated in the Aurora Hunting & Renovation program, but for a few days, I also tried working with the Art of Recycle program, and I can really recommend these programs. My stay in Iceland changed my attitude toward nature. I learned about the beauty and power of nature and felt a strong desire to protect it. I also had a great time with everyone and it was a memory I will never forget. The Northern Lights that I saw in Iceland left a strong impression on me. I am ...
I would like to thank all those involved. I knew nothing about Iceland before taking part. But as a volunteer I was able to learn not only about Iceland's rich nature and friendly people, but also about the countries of origin of the other participants, which made the experience very ...
I really enjoyed my experience in Iceland and even more with this project. I was in Brú for 2 weeks and only wish my journey was longer because time flies so much ! I thank every person for making my trip so special and unforgettable. This project allows me to open my eyes even more on the climate ...
