    Sobre el programa

Nam Dinh may not be one of Vietnam’s most well-known tourist destinations, but that’s exactly what makes it so special.
Far from the crowds of mainstream tourism, this charming city offers authentic insights into Vietnamese culture, local traditions, and the beauty of untouched landscapes. From bustling markets to peaceful pagodas and scenic countryside, there is plenty to explore and experience.

As a volunteer, you’ll become part of a warm and welcoming team at a locally-run 3-star homestay. This traditional yet comfortable accommodation serves international travelers looking for an off-the-beaten-path adventure. Your role will be to assist the staff in providing a friendly and informative guest experience — whether that means helping with check-ins, sharing tips about the area, or offering support during guests' stay.

Beyond that, one of your key tasks will be to help raise awareness of this underrated region by creating engaging content. This could include writing articles, taking photos, or producing social media posts that showcase the diversity and charm of Nam Dinh and its surroundings. The aim is to inspire more travelers to discover what this area has to offer — respectfully and without adding to mass-tourism pressure elsewhere in Vietnam.

Through your involvement in this project, you’ll not only improve your communication and intercultural skills, but also gain valuable hands-on experience in the tourism industry. It’s a fantastic chance to grow both personally and professionally, while making meaningful connections and unforgettable memories with fellow volunteers and locals alike.

Your Responsibilities at the Homestay in Vietnam Are Varied and Meaningful:

As a volunteer, you’ll take on a range of tasks that support both the day-to-day operations of the homestay and the long-term goal of putting Nam Dinh on the map as an off-the-beaten-path travel destination. Your work will include:

    • Writing English-language content about the culture, nature, and attractions of Nam Dinh and Vietnam for websites, blogs, or social media

    • Assisting with check-ins and check-outs of international guests

    • Supporting reception staff in daily guest interactions — for example, gathering feedback or answering questions

    • Helping the team communicate more effectively with foreign guests

    • Assisting with marketing and communication efforts, particularly in English, as many of the local staff members have limited language skills

You’ll be part of a dedicated team that includes a cook, a waiter, a housekeeper, and a receptionist — all of whom will welcome your support and contributions.

Your working hours will typically be from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, giving you a structured but balanced daily schedule. You’ll also have two days off per week, though these days may vary depending on the weekly staff schedule and might not always fall on weekends.

This volunteer placement is ideal for those who want to contribute to meaningful cultural exchange, gain hands-on tourism experience, and improve their English communication skills while immersing themselves in everyday life in Vietnam.

The Project Location: Nam Dinh, Northern Vietnam

The project is located in the bustling city of Nam Dinh, situated in the northern part of Vietnam. It's about 1.5 hours from the capital city of Hanoi and roughly the same distance from the coast. Nam Dinh Province has a population of 2.15 million people.

The city’s landscape is a blend of historical and modern buildings, temples, and churches. Along the streets, you’ll find many small cafés, restaurants, shops, and more. The region has a mountainous climate, with average temperatures ranging between 22°C and 31°C. The summer months (June to August) can be quite hot and humid, with occasional thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.

    Exploring Nam Dinh and Beyond

On your evenings and days off, you’ll have the chance to explore Nam Dinh and the surrounding area or even take a trip to Hanoi, Vietnam’s vibrant capital city.

Motorized two-wheelers are the main mode of transportation in Southeast Asia, and you’ll have the option to rent a scooter to explore Nam Dinh at your own pace. On your discovery tour, make sure to visit Co Trach Temple, Nam Dinh Flag Tower, one of the city’s landmarks, and the Pho Minh Pagoda in the north of the city. You’ll also want to check out Truc Lam Thien Truong, a Buddhist temple known for its massive Buddha statues.

A bit further out of Nam Dinh, to the south, lies Hai Ly Beach. Here, you can relax by the sea and visit an old, dilapidated church that, despite its condition, exudes a wild beauty when contrasted with the sea in the background.

    Included Tours

Our local team also offers various tours, which are included in the program:

    1. Hanoi Street Food Tour and Train Street with Egg Coffee
This half-day excursion runs from around 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. You’ll have the opportunity to try the best of Hanoi's street food, including Pho (beef noodle soup), Banh Cuon (steamed rice rolls), and Banh Mi (Vietnamese sandwiches). Afterward, you’ll visit a café on Train Street, where you can enjoy a Vietnamese Egg Coffee while watching the trains pass by.

    2. Bat Trang Ceramic Village
Located about 13 km southeast of Hanoi, across the Chuong Duong Bridge, Bat Trang is famous for its high-quality ceramic products. Vases, bowls, and other items from this village are exported worldwide. On this tour, you’ll visit the local exhibitions and even try your hand at creating your own ceramic piece to take home.

    3. Day Tour of Hanoi’s Highlights
This tour includes visits to the Temple of Literature, the Tran Quoc Pagoda, and West Lake, the largest freshwater lake in Hanoi. You’ll also explore the Hoan Kiem Lake, St. Joseph's Cathedral, and a traditional ancient house that you won’t find elsewhere in Vietnam. Additionally, you’ll visit the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, which showcases the 54 ethnic minorities in Vietnam through both indoor and outdoor exhibits.
