The project
You can support the children of the Laos community who need educational assistance and make a difference in their lives. The aim of this program is to help improve the children’s education and life prospects in these poorer communities of Laos. The project takes place primarily at a local primary village school where you can teach English classes or conduct extra-curricular English language activities from playing games, sports and music to handicraft making. These classes are meant to improve the English language skills of the children and develop their interests and ambitions in different fields.
You will get the chance to interact with the friendly and kind Laotian children who appreciate your help, which positively impacts the lives of the members of the community. You will gain a truly unforgettable and life-changing experience!
The location
Laos, the country once known as the 'land of a million elephants', can offer a lot - from underground river caves, white-water rapids and jungle zip lines for the thrill seekers, to beautiful forests for the trekkers and nature lovers and wonderful cuisine for the foodies. It is a country that has retained its authenticity and traditions and where Buddhism plays a significant role in the language, art, literature and performing arts. Nanyang Village (Ban Na Yang), where the project takes place, is located 26 km outside of Vientiane and will give you a taste of the authentic rural Laos.
From Monday to Friday you will be preparing and evaluating lessons and activities as well as teach English classes. You will teach basic English, grammar, vocabulary, conversation, games, songs, sports and music. You can create fun and educational real-life situations in which the children can use English.
The schedule can also be in reverse in which case you will be teaching in the morning and preparing your lessons in the afternoon.
On Friday there will be a meeting to evaluate the program of the week.
***Please note that activities and schedules can change at any time based on the needs of the project, local conditions and weather conditions.***
You need to arrive on the Sunday before your start date (each Monday) to be picked up from the airport. If you need to arrive earlier or later, additional fees will apply. Check with us before booking any flights.
You will be staying at a guesthouse located inside an agriculture and development facility where Laotian farmers and Thai/Lao students get their training regarding sustainable agriculture and best practice. The rooms are shared by 4 to 8 people on a single gender basis. There are no laundry facilities, so you should expect to wash your clothes by hand.
There is a volleyball court and a football pitch at the accommodation so you can enjoy some sports as well.
The closest ATM machine can be found on the main road to Vientiane, approximately 5 kilometres from the accommodation. Participants can exchange money or use the ATM at the airport when they arrive.
Private rooms are available for an additional £100(please ask for $ equivalent) per week.
Project is on-going, and you can join at any time, depending upon availability. Placements start each Monday.
