    About the Program


    Volunteering as an English teacher in Tanzania is a meaningful opportunity to support children in developing one of the most important skills for their future—communication. Through regular interaction with English-speaking volunteers, students become more confident in speaking, listening, and understanding the language, which is essential for both education and future job opportunities.

    This program is based in Arusha and gives volunteers the chance to make a real difference while also gaining valuable personal experience, leadership skills, and cultural understanding.

    Background of the Program.

    Tanzania has made great progress in ensuring that most children have access to primary education. However, this success has also brought challenges, especially in terms of overcrowded classrooms and limited teaching resources. In many schools, one teacher may be responsible for a large number of students, making it difficult to provide individual support.

    In addition, traditional teaching approaches often focus more on memorization than understanding. This is particularly noticeable in English learning, where students may be able to repeat words but struggle to use them in real-life situations. Since English becomes the main language of instruction in higher levels of education, this can create difficulties later on.

    For many children, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, improving their English skills can open doors to better education and employment opportunities in the future.

    What You Will Do.

    As a volunteer, you will support local teachers and help create a more engaging learning environment. Your role may include:

    - Assisting with English lessons  
    - Encouraging students to practice speaking and listening  
    - Leading simple activities such as games, songs, and group work  
    - Helping students build confidence in using English  
    - Supporting classroom management alongside local teachers  

    You may also help with basic subjects depending on the needs of the school.

    Placement.

    Volunteers are placed at Joylistic Pre and Primary School, located in Arusha. The school provides education to children from early years up to primary level, typically between the ages of 3 and 14.

    The school serves families from the surrounding community and works hard to provide a supportive learning environment despite limited resources. Volunteers play an important role in assisting teachers and introducing new, creative ways of learning that make lessons more interactive and enjoyable for the children.

    Who Can Join.

    No previous teaching experience is required. The most important qualities are:

    - A positive attitude  
    - Willingness to learn and adapt  
    - Creativity and initiative  
    - Passion for working with children  

    As long as you are motivated and open-minded, you can make a valuable contribution.

    Things to Keep in Mind.

    Resources in some classrooms may be limited, so it is helpful if volunteers come prepared with ideas or simple teaching materials. Flexibility is also important, as each day may be different depending on the needs of the school.

    Health & Travel Information.

    Airport transfers can be arranged locally if needed, although they are not included in the program fee. It is recommended to organize return transport while in Tanzania for better flexibility.

    Regarding vaccinations, a Yellow Fever certificate may be required depending on your travel history. To avoid any complications on arrival, it is advisable to have it prepared in advance.

    Free Time.

    The program runs from Monday to Friday, giving you weekends free to relax or explore. Many volunteers use this time to experience Tanzania’s unique attractions, including safaris, cultural visits, and local tours around Arusha.

    A typical day starts with breakfast at the volunteer house before heading to the placement in the morning. Volunteers usually arrive at the school around 8:30 am and begin by assisting teachers with lessons or preparing simple activities for the students.

    During the morning, volunteers help teach English, lead interactive games, and support students in practicing speaking and listening skills. There is usually a short break mid-morning before continuing with classroom activities.

    Lunch is typically taken in the early afternoon, either at the school or back at the accommodation depending on the schedule.

    In the afternoon, volunteers may continue teaching, help with smaller group activities, or assist with childcare for younger children. The working day usually finishes between 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm.

    After the program, volunteers are free to relax, explore the local area, or spend time with other volunteers. Evenings are often spent sharing meals, planning lessons, or enjoying social time together.

    Arusha offers a variety of cultural and social experiences. You can visit local markets, try traditional Tanzanian food, or take a walk around the town to experience everyday life. There are also opportunities to learn basic Swahili, visit nearby communities, or join cultural exchange activities.

    On weekends, volunteers often take the opportunity to explore more of Tanzania. Popular options include going on safari to national parks, visiting waterfalls, hiking, or taking day trips to nearby attractions.

    For those who enjoy adventure, activities such as mountain climbing, coffee tours, and cultural tours are also available. If you prefer a more relaxed experience, you can simply rest, read, or enjoy the peaceful environment.

    Free time is a great chance to explore, learn, and create unforgettable memories during your stay.

    The program fee supports the overall running of the project and helps ensure a safe, well-organized, and meaningful volunteer experience.

    Transfert de l'aéroport Arusha Airport


    Airport pickup is available for all volunteers arriving at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by a member of our local team or driver who will be waiting for you with your name for easy identification.

    You will then be safely transferred directly to the volunteer accommodation in Arusha. The journey allows you to relax and begin your experience comfortably without worrying about transport arrangements after a long flight.

    We strongly recommend using our arranged pickup service to ensure a safe and smooth arrival, especially for first-time visitors to Tanzania.

    If you arrive early or on a different schedule, we can still assist in organizing your transfer upon request.

    Volunteers will stay in a comfortable and welcoming volunteer house located in Arusha, close to the project site and local amenities.

    The accommodation offers shared rooms designed to encourage cultural exchange and interaction among volunteers from different countries. The house is simple but clean and safe, providing everything needed for a comfortable stay.

    Facilities include shared bathrooms, a common dining and lounge area, and space for relaxation after daily activities. Meals are provided daily, and volunteers often share time together in the evenings, creating a friendly and social environment.

    The location allows easy access to local shops, transport, and cultural experiences around Arusha, giving volunteers a chance to experience real Tanzanian daily life while staying in a secure environment.

    Our team ensures that volunteers are supported throughout their stay and feel at home from the moment they arrive.

    Aliments & Boissons


    Volunteers are provided with daily meals during their stay, offering a taste of local Tanzanian cuisine as well as some familiar international options.

    Meals are typically served three times a day, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The food is freshly prepared and shared in a communal setting, allowing volunteers to enjoy meals together and experience local culture.

    Common meals may include rice, beans, vegetables, fruits, chapati, pasta, and other locally available ingredients. Drinking water is provided, and tea or coffee is often available in the mornings and evenings.

    We are able to accommodate basic dietary requirements such as vegetarian options when informed in advance.

    Meals are an important part of the cultural experience, giving volunteers a chance to connect with local traditions and daily life in Tanzania.

    The program is flexible and runs throughout the year. Volunteers can start on any Monday, depending on their availability. We recommend arriving at least one day before your start date to settle in.

    Arrival Details  
    Volunteers should arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). Airport pick-up can be arranged upon request to ensure a smooth and safe arrival.

    Upon arrival, you will be welcomed by a member of our local team and transferred to the volunteer accommodation in Arusha. On your first day, you will receive an orientation covering important information about the program, local culture, safety guidelines, and your placement.

    You will also have time to rest, meet other volunteers, and prepare for your first day at the project.

    If you arrive earlier than your start date, accommodation can still be arranged upon request.
