What we do
The
Foundation offers a variety of comprehensive services through centers located
in the city of Accra and Kokrobite fishing community about 45 minutes drive
west of Accra. Collaboration within the two communities we serve has enabled us to
expand our networks to include support from local authorities,
schools and services organizations. Currently the Foundation offers the following
community outreach services:
Youth Training/Resource Centre, consisting of gymnasium, ICT
Training Unit, library and accommodation Unit for volunteers at Roman Ridge,
Accra. The multipurpose facility provides opportunities for disadvantaged
children/youth to improve their talents in the fields of sports, education and
ICT skills. The centre is opened to children from under-served community of Nima - Mamobi in Accra. As a community,Nima/Mamobi is majorly a slum, where almost every house is built of mud. The
nature of the community also makes it a densely populated area, as migrants
from all parts of Ghana and West Africa; find it a place to start a life in the
capital city, Accra Nima/Mamobi therefore has a link to all part of Ghana as
most people from outside Accra who ended up in the corridors of power, have
link with Nima
Field outreach program at Kokrobite, a small fishing village on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean
about 30 km west from Accra; with population of between 8000;
predominantly engaged in subsistence fishing with very low incomes. Our field staff are engaged as supplementary teachers at the local basic school, where they teach basic English Language and Maths,ICT and sports coaching; as well as assisting the local community clinic in their daily operations.
These
programmes are designed to benefit disadvantaged children and youth from
impoverished homes (trafficked and neglected children, street children,
unskilled out-of-school youth, etc) in Nima/Mamobi and Kokrobite.Community
outreach services are offered to youth ages 7-19, whose household income falls
within the programme requirements. Through mentorship programmes, assistance is
also available to support participants’ families and schools with educational
resources and related training.
Bridge
Foundation works with disadvantaged children in deprived communities at the
grassroots level in various developmental fields. Working with Bridge you can experience
the vibrant diversity of the Ghanaian culture while making a difference at the
grassroots level. Our activities are designed to bring a sustainable high
impact output after completion. Programs are available throughout the year.
Where we work
Ghana is rated as one
of Africa's
great success stories, reaping the benefits of a stable democracy in the form
of fast-paced development. With its welcoming beaches,
gorgeous hinterland, rich culture, vibrant cities, diverse wildlife, easy
transport and affable inhabitants, it is no wonder Ghana is sometimes
labeled 'Africa for
beginners'. It is easy to come here for a week or a month, but no trip can be
complete without a visit to Ghana's coastal forts, poignant reminders of a page
of history that defined our modern world.
What all Ghanaians share are
their hospitality and a penchant for socialization, placing them amongst the
happiest, most welcoming people on the planet; and positioning Ghana the most
idyllic place to volunteer.
