Volunteer. Discover. Connect.

Since 2022, we have welcomed more than 500 international volunteers from around the world and work closely with more than 15 local institutions in Arusha.

Our volunteer programs include:

  • 👩‍🏫 Teaching & Education

  • ❤️ Childcare & Baby Care

  • 🏥 Healthcare & Medical Internships

  • 👩‍🦱 Women Empowerment & Community Outreach

  • 🐕 Animal Welfare

Our projects are run in cooperation with local organizations and communities. We regularly visit the projects and stay in close contact with the people responsible for them to ensure that volunteers are placed where their support is genuinely useful.

Our goal is not to replace local staff, but to support existing teams and create opportunities for meaningful intercultural exchange.

More Than Just Volunteering: We provide

  • Airport pickup

  • Comfortable volunteer accommodation

  • Meals during your stay

  • Orientation in Arusha

  • Support with local transportation and everyday life

  • Introduction to your volunteer project

  • Personal support throughout your stay

  • A community of international volunteers

Our local team knows Arusha inside and out and is available to help you feel comfortable and confident during your stay.

Meet Your Local Team

Giving Hands is a locally connected organization based in Arusha.

Our team members grew up in Tanzania and understand both the local culture and the experience of international volunteers.

Sarah, your main contact person, has also volunteered abroad herself. This gives her a personal understanding of the questions, challenges and cultural differences you may experience when coming to Tanzania for the first time.

Discover Tanzania: Experience everyday life in Tanzania and connect with local communities beyond the typical tourist experience.

Your volunteer experience doesn't have to end when the project day is over. Arusha is the perfect starting point for discovering Tanzania. During your free time and weekends, we can help you organize:

🦁 Safaris
🏔️ Mount Kilimanjaro & Mount Meru
🌿 Materuni Waterfalls & Moshi
🛖 Maasai Village visits
♨️ Hot Springs
🥾 Hiking & nature trips
🌍 Weekend adventures

Our team combines local knowledge with international experience, allowing us to understand both the Tanzanian context and the questions international volunteers may have when arriving in a new country.

We believe that volunteering should be based on respect, cultural exchange, responsibility and long-term cooperation.

Come to Tanzania not only as a visitor – become part of the community.

After my 3 month stay in Tanzania, I had to say a heartfelt goodbye. A major contribution to this wonderful experience was my stay at the Giving Hands hostel.
