Ghana has a big challenge when it comes to dental care.
There is a shortage of dentist to care for the many Ghanaian. These dentist
are often located in the big cities leaving the rural areas. There is also lack
of basic dental tools and equipment in our rural communities. This brings about
lot of dental care issues in the rural areas among the poor. This lack of
dentist and proper dental care makes most people in the rural areas result to
local remedies that brings about other health hazards in the future.
Volunteers are therefore needed to support dental care by
giving support to dental care nurses and doctors in rural communities, schools
and in health centres through medical outreaches.
Volunteers will help to give education to students, educate
them about proper mouth hygiene, how to brush their teeth, how many times to
brush their teeth etc and mouth odour; how to treat it as well as other dental
issues.
Volunteers will also help to conduct routine check-ups,
examining teeth and gums and diagnosing oral health issue. They will also help
in cleaning, scaling and polishing to maintain oral health. Volunteers will
again help to remove and repair teeth causing problems in patients. They will
also help replacing missing teeth with artificial ones anchored to the jawbone.
Where will I work?
Volunteers will work in and around Kasoa and Accra
Volunteers can bring safety
clothes, shoes, face, and nose masks, sanitizes robbing alcohol, hospital
scrubs, etc

your needs.
Who You Will Work with
Volunteers work closely with the
hospital administration who will assign you to various departments.
How Do I Get to the Placement?
For the first day, volunteers
will be taken to the centre. Our staff will show volunteers how to get to the
placement, the direction to take, the particular vehicle, and the amount to pay
for the transportation. This is repeated the next day if the volunteer thinks
he still can't make it until the volunteer can make his/her way. The same is
done for the return to the homestay after the work.
