    Work in a kindergarten run by knowledgeable locals, and help to care for and educate young children.

    The ASF kindergarten volunteer programme offers international volunteers the opportunity to support the education and development of young children (ages 3–6) in local Senegalese kindergartens. Volunteers work alongside local teachers to create a stimulating, safe, and joyful learning environment while respecting the school's curriculum, culture, and teaching methods.

    The program focuses on early childhood education and development through play, creativity, language development, health awareness, and social interaction. Volunteers do not replace teachers; instead, they provide additional support, individual attention, and engaging educational activities that enrich the children's daily experience.

    This cultural exchange also allows volunteers to learn about Senegalese traditions, education, and community life while sharing their own language and culture in an age-appropriate way.

    A typical day of a volunteer in this project would look as follows. You wake up in the morning at your host-family's house, where you have your own bedroom. You have a typical West-African breakfast with your very welcoming host-family. After breakfast, you walk to your project location, which is at a walking distance from your host-family's house.

    Volunteers may assist teachers by:

    • Helping supervise classroom activities.
    • Preparing educational games and materials.
    • Reading stories to children.
    • Leading creative activities.
    • Organizing outdoor games.
    • Supporting children who need additional attention.
    • Assisting during meal and snack times.
    • Helping maintain a clean and welcoming classroom.
    • Participating in school celebrations and special events.
    A daily schedule can look like:

    In your free time, you can explore Senegal or other neigboring West-African countries with other volunteers! In Senegal, you can visit the beautiful beaches of Saint-Louis or Cap Skirring, the Lompoul desert, the Pink Lake, the Seashell Island (Joal-Fadiouth), or Ile de Gorée which has a very intriguing history of slave-trade. Also, you can visit several wildparks with exotic animals or beautiful bird-parks. Besides, the city of Saint-Louis is a very vibrant and lively city, with lots of art, beautiful architecture and history, and a vibrant nightlife with various clubs, good restaurants, and bars.

    Minimum leeftijd: 18 jaar

    Om deel te nemen aan het programma dien je tenminste 18 jaar oud te zijn op de startdatum van het programma. Er kunnen uitzonderingen gemaakt worden indien je een bewijs van toestemming kan aantonen van uw wettelijke voogd(en) of samen met je ouders deelneemt.

    Aider Sans Frontières is a non-profit organisation, so all costs go towards your project, operating costs, staff allowances, accommodation and food. Prices include accommodation, food, water, staff support and transfer to and from the airport. 

    Flights and insurance are NOT included in the price. Transparency is an important value to ASF so for a breakdown of costs please contact us for further explanation.

    Afhaal aan de luchthaven op Blaise Diagne International Airport

    Transfer to and from the airport is done by one of our experienced and very friendly staff members or drivers. The drive to and from the international airport in Diass (Thiès) to Saint-Louis, where ASF and your host family is based, takes about 3.5 hours. However, this is optional and volunteers can decide to organise it on their own.

    Accomodatie

    Our standard accommodation, included in the price of your project, is host family accommodation. We will match you with a local family who will look after you and give you three meals a day included in the price.  Our families are friendly, very welcoming and fully checked. Host family accommodation is clean but not luxurious. You can have your own room, or share a room with other volunteers if they are present at the same time as you. As a general rule, all volunteers that are above 25, will have their private room at the guest house, unless they request otherwise. There will be bathrooms at your accommodation, that can be private (en-suite) or shared with other volunteers or family members.

    Eten & Drank

    Prices include food and water, which means you get breakfast, lunch and dinner, so three meals a day. Any special food requirements, such as vegetarian meals, is often not a problem but should be indicated in advance.
