Opengate is a Swiss-Tanzanian organization offering meaningful volunteer and travel experiences in Tanzania. We focus on projects in childcare, health and education, providing cultural immersion, personalized support and accommodation.

At Opengate Volunteering, we strive to match you with a volunteer project in Tanzania that perfectly fits your personality and interests. No matter where you stand in your personal and professional life, we believe we have the right project for you.

If you have just graduated from high school or are unsure about your future professional career, your time in Tanzania and the work in your project can consolidate your desired career or give you new impulses for your decision-making. Volunteering can also be a great chance for professionals to enhance their skills and gain valuable experiences in a developing country. You will get to know aid work in Africa with all its challenges and opportunities first-hand and will learn to adapt and adjust to new circumstances.

Regardless of your field of work you will receive a detailed certificate of attendance at the end of your mission. You can also have your voluntary work recognized as an internship (field internship, teaching or social internship, nursing internship, etc.) for your studies. At Open Gate Volunteering, we do not make a conceptual difference between voluntary work and internships abroad because we believe that you are always both: A helper and a learner.

Your stay in Tanzania should be beneficial and meaningful for yourself as well as for the project. Therefore, we will provide you with intensive support right from the start. Our volunteer team will help you prepare for your assignment step by step. If any questions, challenges or problems arise, our on-site team will take care of you. Our team regularly checks in on and keeps in touch with the projects. On the one hand, this is how we ensure the sustainability of the work. On the other hand, doing so makes sure our volunteers are in best hands.

If you have problems deciding for which project you want to volunteer (it’s hard, right? ;)), we can assign you to different projects. The members of our team speak English, German, Swahili and Italian fluently.
