Due to hard adversities such as extreme poverty and inequality, many Ugandan families and mothers are forced to leave their children in orphanages to seek for better opportunities so that they can give these children a better quality of life. Still, children at these institutions usually lack access to education and leisure activities. This problem is even larger considering that currently there is very little supply of staff and social workers for the large demand presented by the many childcare centers around the country.

That is why in this program , our main goal is supporting one of these orphanages, helping the children at the orphanage have adequate care, education, food, and clothing. The orphanage is also actively looking for adoptive parents, and through your work you will help the institution reach more of these prospective parents and thus help the children at this orphanage find a family.

Volunteers work directly with local staff members, providing support in the tasks that appear depending on the daily needs of the place, and also work directly with children,  giving classes in topics like math or English and creating educational games for them. The work you'll do with these children will be very meaningful and important to each of them, especially considering that many don't attend school. The tools you give them will be key in helping them get better opportunities in their future. 

As a volunteer, you may expect to do some tasks like:
  • Giving attention and care to the children.
  • Supporting local staff in tasks like preparing food, cleaning, giving maintenance to the center, and organising the spaces at the place.
  • Organising and giving classes in basic topics like English, math, science, or others.
  • Create and play didactic games with the children.
  • Participate in leisure activities such as singing, dancing, painting, and storytelling.
Currently, the center houses around forty children.

Usually volunteers start their workdays at 8:00 a.m., when they arrive to the center and start performing their tasks. Specific schedules will be provided to volunteers after induction.

Known as the Pearl of Africa, Uganda is one of the most scenic and interesting countries you may get the chance to visit as a volunteer: breathtaking scenery, a very rich and interesting culture, plenty of wildlife and flora, delicious cuisine, everything you might want, Uganda probably has it -and more. 

Some of the places we would recommend you to visit as a volunteer are: 
  • Kampala: Uganda's mountainous capital. In Kampala you can find bustling markets, historical sights (especially the Kasubi royal tombs, a Unesco heritage site tied to the Buganda kingdom), museums (especially the national museum), cultural areas (don't miss shows shown at the Ndere center!), and also a very diverse nightlife. 
  • Murchinson Falls National Park: Sprawling from the shore of Lake Albert, it's the largest park in Uganda and a place you shouldn't miss: it's a place filled with large African fauna, beautiful scenery, large and strong waterfalls, and excellent safari opportunities.
  • Rwenzori Mountain Ranges: a Unesco heritage site, it's one of Africa's most beautiful alpine areas. It's filled with glaciers, lakes, waterfalls, and flora and fauna you can't find in many other places.
  • Fort Portal: It's been named one of Uganda's "touristic cities"; it's the city you will be staying at and one that has much to see and do: there's the Tooro Botanical Gardens, nearby scenic spots like lake Kyaninga, or historical monuments and places like the new Tooro Kingdom Palace or the Old Tooro Kingdom Palace.

Your rates will cover:

  • Airport pick-up and transfer to accommodation (Fridays 1-3 only in rural area)(all sunday in Kajjansi).
  • Accommodation during your volunteer program
  • 3 meals during your volunteer program
  •  24 hours a day, 7 days a week support from the adventure volunteer team
  • Program monitoring and evaluation
  • Orientation and induction to the program
  • Certificate of hours dedicated to your volunteering
  • Accident insurance during your volunteering
  • Liability for your activity
  • Receipt of the program fee from the NGO
  • Guidance, advice and management in the choice of the program.

Hämtning på flygplatsen på Entebbe International Airport

Volunteers must arrive in Uganda on a Friday (pick up on that day only), or sunday until 3pm.

Failure to do so may result in additional fees for the volunteer. Volunteers will be picked up at Entebbe International Airport and taken to their accommodation.

 Volunteers will stay in shared rooms (about 4 volunteers per room) in a guesthouse. 
All beds have mosquito nets and the house keeper will change bed linen weekly.

The house also has wifi, electricity, drinking water (although we recommend volunteers to buy bottled water) and common areas available for volunteers such as a kitchen, bathrooms and a living room.

Daily meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) will be provided at the volunteer's home. Volunteers who require a different food requirement (vegetarian, intolerant to a particular food) should indicate this in advance.

The project is open all year round, although volunteers must arrive to the program on specific start dates. These dates are usually every two Fridays a month until 3pm. If volunteers arrive outside these dates, they may have to cover additional fees.

ADVENTURE VOLUNTEER is a non-profit organization, established in 2017. We collaborate in the social and environmental field through projects of conservation and protection of the environment and animals, as well as in the social part through projects of empowerment of women, community development, functional diversity, medical or teaching.


Our team of collaborators has a deep experience in international volunteer programs.  We know all the realities of the areas where we are working, collaborating and where we have a presence. 


Our projects offer volunteers the opportunity to meet, share and participate in social and environmental projects. These projects demand educational and recreational activities that benefit communities of different cultures and customs, communities with economic difficulties and different degrees of social exclusion.
