As a volunteer working with children in Guatemala, you can help with the daily activities of a kindergarten or school as well as the growth of young people from families with low incomes. You can correct homework, help with book review exercises, and support the teachers in pre- and/or primary school classes in the morning. Additionally, you can assist the children with computer assignments, science classes where they can develop their own projects, and geography lessons. In the afternoon, it's critical to keep the children off the streets, nurture their creativity and talents, and provide them valuable educational activities.
The volunteers work as substitute teachers and help prepare and conduct the lessons. Volunteers also help with teaching English to the children, give computer lessons, assist with homework, engage in painting, dancing, singing, create decorative crafts using recycled materials, play football, or promote various sports activities.
Generally, lessons are scheduled from Monday to Friday, between 8 am and 12 pm, with optional additional activities taking place from 2 pm to 4 pm. While you have the option to volunteer for either a half-day or a full day in this mission, it is important to recognize that the success of the project relies on the collaboration of volunteers and your level of commitment.
It is essential to note that the tasks assigned may differ based on several factors, including the number of volunteers, the season, the current needs of the school, and individual motivation. Not every volunteer may have the opportunity to participate in all tasks.
