    PROJECT OVERVIEW

Vicky’s Keys (VK) supports Caribbean food security and climate resilience through regenerative growing and heritage-rooted land stewardship in Sint Maarten. Our volunteer program is hands-on and practical, centered around permaculture-inspired methods—working with nature to build healthier soil, stronger ecosystems, and more resilient food production.
This work connects directly to real community needs: local food security, environmental care, and skills-building through learning-by-doing.

    IMPORTANT 2026 NOTE

VK is in a transition season.
    • We are welcoming volunteers until 20 June 2026.
    • After 20 June 2026, our volunteer program will be paused as we prepare our next phase.
    • From November 2026 onward, VK will focus primarily on structured, paid residency pathways (minimum 4 weeks) as part of our Heritage Agrarian Campus model.
If you’re looking to volunteer in Sint Maarten this season, we’d love to support a great match.

    PROJECT DETAILSWhat You’ll Do

As a volunteer, you’ll support the steady development and maintenance of our gardens and regenerative systems. Tasks vary with the season and current priorities, and may include:
    • Supporting food forest and garden maintenance (planting, weeding, mulching, harvesting)
    • Building and maintaining compost systems
    • Assisting with plant care and simple companion-planting routines
    • Supporting water-wise growing practices (basic irrigation support, water management tasks)
    • Light site maintenance and organization
    • Simple documentation support (photos, labeling, tracking growth—if you enjoy this)
    • Joining occasional community-oriented learning or sharing moments when available
We aim to keep tasks realistic, well-guided, and meaningful—especially as a small team in an active transition year.

    Learning Outcomes

Volunteers often leave with practical experience in:
    • soil care basics (composting, mulching, building fertility over time)
    • tropical garden rhythms and climate-smart growing
    • regenerative agriculture foundations and permaculture principles in practice
    • water-wise growing and simple water management habits
    • observation skills: noticing patterns in plants, pests, and ecosystem balance
    • understanding how Caribbean growing conditions shape what works (and what doesn’t)

    Surroundings & Living Arrangements

VK is based in Sint Maarten, a Dutch Caribbean island known for its natural beauty and vibrant culture. Volunteers stay in dormitory-style accommodation at Vicky’s Keys with shared facilities, designed for a simple, community-oriented experience.
The work environment is close to the growing areas, surrounded by greenery, and suited to people who enjoy outdoor routines and collaborative living.

    With Whom You’ll Be Working

You’ll work alongside a small, committed team and may engage with local growers, sustainability practitioners, and other volunteers. The environment is supportive and collaborative, and we value respect, communication, and steady contribution.

    Expectations

We’re looking for volunteers who are proactive, grounded, and open to learning. You should be comfortable with outdoor work in a tropical climate and willing to follow guidance and safety basics (hydration, sun protection, pacing).
Seeds: If possible, volunteers are welcome to bring seeds (vegetables, fruit, herbs). This is optional but appreciated and can contribute directly to what we grow.

What You Can Expect From Us

    We provide:
    • guidance and training throughout your stay
    • clear tasks and support from our team
    • a meaningful experience where your contribution supports real food security and land care
    • a welcoming community environment and cultural exchange opportunities

    IMPACT

By joining this program, you’ll contribute to:
    • strengthening local food security through diverse growing systems
    • supporting regenerative land practices suited to Caribbean conditions
    • improving soil health and resource stewardship through daily hands-on work
    • helping VK prepare for its next phase as a Heritage Agrarian Campus

Your time with us is more than a trip—it’s practical contribution toward a more resilient future for Sint Maarten.
