    Om programmet

If you love teaching and spending time with children, volunteering as a community teacher in China can be an incredibly enriching and meaningful experience.

Although English is part of the national curriculum from primary school onwards, there is still a significant shortage of qualified English teachers across many regions. This is where you can make a real impact.

You’ll help students learn basic English through fun and interactive activities like songs, games, and simple exercises. You may also get involved in leading creative sessions such as drawing, colouring, writing, handicrafts, sports, and more!

By supporting local teachers and school staff, you’ll help make English lessons more engaging and enjoyable, while also encouraging students to express themselves confidently.

Outside the classroom, this program offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the rhythms of rural life, gaining firsthand insight into local customs and traditions. You’ll have the chance to visit the Confucius Temple—not just to admire its architecture, but to appreciate its historical importance as a place of learning for scholars preparing for the Emperor’s exams.

Your cultural journey will include experiences like dumpling-making, trying oil tea, learning basic Mandarin, and exploring traditional Chinese customs. Through a mix of hands-on workshops, cultural exploration, and sightseeing, you’ll develop a deeper understanding of China’s rich heritage.

For those staying longer than one week, optional daily Chinese language and culture classes (two hours per day) are available. From your second week onward, your teaching schedule will vary to keep things fresh and interesting, with new activities and experiences.

    Program Highlights

    • Teach English and other subjects using creative, engaging methods.
    • Share your culture and make lasting friendships across borders.
    • Gain valuable hands-on teaching experience while helping children develop communication skills.
    • Experience the hospitality, history, and daily life of rural China.
    • Take part in cultural activities like traditional food-making and seasonal fruit picking (e.g., persimmons in autumn).

    Your Role

    • Teach basic English and support other subjects such as art, music, or science.
    • Use games, songs, storytelling, and other interactive techniques to engage young learners.
    • Assist local teachers with lesson planning, classroom activities, and overall student support.
    • Introduce students to your culture and way of life, helping expand their worldview.
    • Act as a cultural bridge, fostering meaningful connections within the community.

    Location

Nestled in southern China, Guangxi Autonomous Region is a captivating destination that blends natural splendor with a rich cultural heritage. Bordering Vietnam, Guangxi boasts diverse landscapes, from picturesque karst mountains to lush river valleys. Its subtropical climate ensures mild winters and warm summers, making it an inviting destination year-round.

    Project Tasks

    • A real insight into authentic Chinese rural life.
    • Improve the English language of the Chinese youth by giving them opportunities to converse.
    • Provide you with teaching experience, an invaluable life skill.  Assist the English teachers and classroom assistants.

Afhentning i lufthavnen i Guilin Liangjiang International Airport

Programs begin every Monday, and volunteers are required to arrive the day prior, for orientation before the project.

A free airport pickup is included when arriving to Guilin Liangjiang International Airport – Arrival Hall Exit 6 (KWL). You must arrive between 13:00 to 20:00 on Sunday.

If arriving outside the pickup time, you can book an extra night or private transfer for an additional fee.

    Indkvartering

Our accommodation is located within Fengyan Village, and it has standard rooms (4-6 people per room), which are female and male separated. It has hot showers, western-style bathrooms, and limited WIFI (the signal may be affected according to local conditions). There are public areas for participants to relax.

    Shops
A small on-site shop sells snacks, but for ATMs and larger stores, a 30-minute bus ride to town is necessary.

    Transportation
Our Centre is located about 4km from Lian Hua town, easily accessible by bus or bicycle during the day. The largest nearby town, Gongcheng, is 20km away, with frequent buses and shared taxis available. From Gongcheng, buses regularly travel to Yangshuo, 42km away.

    Money
While daily expenses are minimal, with food, drinks, and snacks available at low prices, around 100 Yuan per week should suffice. However, if you plan self-organized trips (e.g., to street barbecues in Gongcheng), you’ll need extra funds. The nearest ATM that accepts international bank cards is 30 minutes away by car, so it’s best to withdraw cash at the airport or in Yangshuo before arrival.
