    Unveiling the Authentic Nepal: A Social Experiment Journey

    Nepal, a land renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and vibrant culture, draws countless visitors to its "Golden Triangle" of Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Chitwan. While these cities offer compelling tourist experiences, many visitors often leave without a deeper understanding of the country's authentic spirit and local way of life. Our carefully designed "Social Experiment Journey" bridges this gap, providing a unique opportunity to transcend typical tourism and engage meaningfully with Nepal, from its bustling urban centers to its serene mountain villages and wild lowlands.

    This program goes beyond sightseeing, encouraging participants to contribute directly to local communities and economies. Volunteers will experience Nepal through the eyes of its people, fostering genuine connections and gaining insights into the diverse social formations and geographical richness that make Nepal a truly captivating destination where peace and love endure.

    Where Volunteers Will Stay and What Their Daily Program Will Be Like:

    Week 1: Kathmandu – Nepal's Historic Capital

    Kathmandu, established in the 2nd century AD, is one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited places and the heart of Nepal's history, art, culture, and economy. With a multi-ethnic population primarily of Hindu faith, its cultural and religious festivities are integral to daily life. UNESCO World Heritage Sites like the Durbar Squares of Hanuman Dhoka, Patan, and Bhaktapur, the Hindu temples of Pashupatinath and Changunarayan, and the Buddhist stupas of Swayambhunath and Boudhanath are major attractions.

    Our volunteers will spend a week in Kathmandu, exploring its hidden gems and vibrant rhythm:

    • Day 1: Arrive in Kathmandu, followed by an authentic Nepali welcome dinner in a local homestay, offering a warm introduction to Nepalese hospitality.

    • Day 2: Embark on a walking tour of Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), explore the bustling Thamel district, and delve into the historical grandeur of Kathmandu Durbar Square. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.

    • Day 3: Visit local monasteries around Swayambhunath, engaging with monks and nuns, and participating in early morning prayers for a profound spiritual experience. The rest of the day is free for personal exploration. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.

    • Day 4: Explore the magnificent Boudhanath Stupa, a significant Buddhist landmark, and later participate in the evening Arati ceremony at Pashupatinath Temple, a revered Hindu site. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.

    • Day 5: Undertake a day hike to Shivapuri Peak within Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park, including a visit to the region's largest Buddhist Nunnery and enjoying lunch with the Buddhist Nuns. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.

    • Day 6: Participate in a hands-on Nepali cooking class, learning to prepare staples like Momo and Dal Bhat. The class often includes a visit to a local vegetable and spice market, providing insight into local produce and culinary traditions. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.

    • Day 7: Explore either Patan Durbar Square or Bhaktapur, focusing on the intricate wood carving works and experiencing these heritage cities from a local perspective.

    Week 2: Khudi – Gateway to the Annapurna Circuit

    Khudi (28.40°N 84.31°E), a picturesque village nestled between the Khudi and Marshyangdi rivers, serves as a historic gateway to the Annapurna Circuit Trek. It acts as a vital market and service hub for approximately 20 surrounding mountain villages, providing essential resources like a medical clinic, veterinary clinic, secondary school, and various shops. This region is also home to the majestic Mansiri Himal, a subrange of the Himalayas featuring peaks like Manaslu, one of Earth's twenty highest.

    • Day 8: Enjoy a scenic 6-hour drive northwest from Kathmandu to Besisahar, where volunteers will be warmly welcomed by villagers in a mountain community near Khudi.

    • Day 9-14: Spend a full week immersed in this mountain village in the Annapurna area. Volunteers will engage in holistic community development, supporting local initiatives such as small community schools, assisting farmers with organic agricultural work, and experiencing authentic Nepali village life through homestays. Activities may include swimming in local rivers, hiking, village tours, fishing, and supporting women's empowerment projects. This stay in Khudi offers an unparalleled experience of rural Nepal.

    Week 3: Pokhara – Nepal's Tourism Capital and Community Service

    Pokhara is Nepal's second-largest city and its "capital of tourism," famous for its stunning Himalayan views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, and Manaslu from vantage points like Sarangkot (1600m). It is also known for its numerous lakes and is home to many Gurkha soldiers.

    • Day 15: Drive to Pokhara and check into your accommodation for the night.

    • Day 16-21: Enjoy a week in Pokhara, combining adventure with meaningful service. Mornings and evenings will be dedicated to supporting a local children's home, assisting with cooking meals and providing homework support. During the day, volunteers have free time to explore Pokhara's attractions: hiking to Sarangkot or the World Peace Pagoda, boating on Phewa Lake, paragliding, or experiencing day rafting.

    Week 4: Sauraha Village – Gateway to Chitwan National Park

    Sauraha, a village in Chitwan district, is the eastern gateway to Chitwan National Park, Nepal's first national park, established in 1973 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1984. This region is home to the indigenous Tharu people, known for their unique culture, traditional homes, and deep connection to the forest. Chitwan National Park is celebrated for its diverse wildlife, including the one-horned rhinoceros, Royal Bengal tiger, gaur bison, sloth bear, and Asian wild elephant, as well as a rich variety of birds and reptiles like the Asian rock python and Gharial crocodile.

    • Day 22: Drive to Sauraha village, adjacent to Chitwan National Park.

    • Day 23-27: Spend four days in Sauraha engaging in social work, supporting women's empowerment groups, assisting local farms, delivering lectures on environmental awareness in local schools, and experiencing homestays with local Tharu families. Simultaneously, volunteers will enjoy safaris and other jungle activities to observe wildlife and immerse themselves in the unique culture of the lowlanders.

    Returning to Kathmandu: The Journey Concludes

    • Day 28: Drive back to Kathmandu (approximately 5 hours) for a final night. This afternoon is dedicated to last-minute souvenir shopping in Thamel for friends and family back home.

    • Day 29: Depart from Kathmandu, flying back home with unforgettable memories.

    Volunteer Involvement and Program Philosophy:

    This program offers volunteers a unique level of involvement. Collaborating directly with local monasteries, homestays, community schools, children's homes, and farmhouses, participants gain full access to a variety of attractions and experiences that typical tourists often miss. This carefully designed package blends touristic exploration with profound local engagement, enabling participants to understand Nepal holistically – from its bustling cities to its remote mountain corners, its rich heritage to its towering Himalayan heights, and its diverse cuisines to its varied cultures.

    It's a comprehensive experience that offers some of the best insights one can gain in Nepal as a volunteer, all while contributing to local communities. This budget-friendly package is designed to provide a broader understanding of what makes Nepal a country where peace and love are deeply ingrained, and why it is a must-visit destination at least once in a lifetime.

    We welcome volunteers with a positive mindset, a helping attitude, openness, friendly gestures, a love for nature, and respect for other cultures. In return, we guarantee an exciting and enriching month-long experience. While we prefer groups or at least two participants to run the program, single travelers are welcome to join specific start dates (preferably the 1st or 14th of the month). Groups of two or more can join at any time.

    Volunteers need only bring their curiosity to explore another culture, a willingness to be a part of it, and a helping hand where needed.

    Week 1: Kathmandu – Historical & Spiritual Immersion (Days 1-7)

    Explore Nepal's capital, a hub of history, art, and culture with numerous UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

    • Day 1: Arrival & Welcome: Arrive at TIA, transfer to a local homestay, and enjoy an authentic Nepali welcome dinner.

    • Day 2: Heritage & City Exploration: Walking tour of Swayambhunath Stupa (Monkey Temple) for panoramic views, explore Thamel, and visit Kathmandu Durbar Square (UNESCO). Overnight in Kathmandu.

    • Day 3: Monastic Engagement: Visit a Buddhist monastery near Swayambhunath, interact with monks/nuns, and participate in early morning prayers. Free time for personal exploration. Overnight in Kathmandu.

    • Day 4: Sacred Sites: Explore Boudhanath Stupa, a major Tibetan Buddhist center (participate in kora). Witness the enchanting Arati ceremony at Pashupatinath Temple (Hindu site). Overnight in Kathmandu.

    • Day 5: Mountain Hike & Nunnery Visit: Day hike within Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park, ascending towards Shivapuri Peak. Visit Nagi Gompa (Buddhist Nunnery) and share lunch with the Nuns. Overnight in Kathmandu.

    • Day 6: Culinary Journey: Hands-on Nepali cooking class (Momo, Dal Bhat), including a guided visit to a local vegetable and spice market. Overnight in Kathmandu.

    • Day 7: Artisan Cities: Explore either Patan Durbar Square or Bhaktapur (both UNESCO sites) renowned for ancient architecture and intricate wood carving.

    Week 2: Khudi – Authentic Mountain Village Life (Days 8-14)

    Experience genuine daily life in a traditional village in the lower Annapurna foothills, actively contributing to local development.

    • Day 8: Journey to the Mountains: Scenic 6-hour drive northwest from Kathmandu to Besisahar, then transfer to the rural mountain community of Khudi. Receive a warm welcome from host villagers for your homestay.

    • Day 9-14: Village Immersion & Contribution: Full week immersed in a traditional mountain village. This period focuses on active participation and contribution:

      • Agricultural Support: Engage in seasonal farm work with local farmers (planting, harvesting, livestock care).

      • Community School Assistance: Support small community schools (informal teaching, educational activities).

      • Holistic Development: Participate in various community-driven activities (e.g., infrastructure, environmental awareness, women's empowerment).

      • Cultural Exchange: Genuine cultural exchange through daily interactions, learning customs, and participating in village life.

      • Leisure & Exploration: Free time for local walks, village tours, swimming in rivers, or fishing. Authentic rural life experience with fresh dairy products and local meals.

    Week 3: Pokhara – Adventure & Community Service (Days 15-21)

    Balance thrilling adventure activities with meaningful community service at a children's home in Nepal's "capital of tourism."

    • Day 15: Scenic Drive to Pokhara: Picturesque drive from the mountain village to Pokhara. Check into accommodation.

    • Day 16-21: Adventure & Children's Home Support: Dedicate this week to balancing adventure with service:

      • Children's Home Support: Mornings and evenings assisting a local children's home with meal preparation, homework, and engaging in activities.

      • Adventure Activities (Self-guided/Optional): Daytime flexibility for:

        • Hiking: To Sarangkot for Himalayan views or the World Peace Pagoda.

        • Lake Activities: Boating or kayaking on Phewa Lake.

        • Adrenaline Sports: Paragliding, zip-lining, or rafting (at own expense).

        • City Exploration: Lakeside area, local markets, cultural sites.

    Week 4: Sauraha Village – Wildlife & Lowland Culture (Days 22-27)

    Discover the diverse ecosystem of Chitwan National Park and immerse yourself in the unique culture of the indigenous Tharu people.

    • Day 22: Journey to the Lowlands: Drive to Sauraha village, strategically located next to Chitwan National Park, entering Nepal's Terai region.

    • Day 23-27: Wildlife & Tharu Community Engagement: Four full days combining thrilling wildlife experiences with immersive social work:

      • Wildlife Safaris: Guided safaris (jeep or canoe) within Chitwan National Park to spot rhinos, deer, and diverse birdlife.

      • Tharu Cultural Immersion: Engage directly with the indigenous Tharu community through village walks, observing homes, agriculture, and culture.

      • Community Support: Contribute to local social initiatives (e.g., women's empowerment, farm support, environmental awareness lectures).

      • Local Exploration: Experience living next to the jungle, learning Tharu daily life and heritage.

    Concluding Your Journey: Return to Kathmandu & Departure (Days 28-29)

    • Day 28: Return to Kathmandu & Farewell: Scenic 5-hour drive back to Kathmandu for your final overnight stay. Afternoon free for last-minute souvenir shopping in Thamel.

    • Day 29: Departure: Transfer to TIA for your onward flight, departing with profound experiences and cherished memories of Nepal.

    Kathmandu: A Tapestry of Culture In the capital, you have the flexibility to delve deeper into its history. Beyond heritage sites, explore the vibrant local markets of Ason, visit specialized museums, or wander through ancient alleyways to absorb the city’s unique energy. Whether finding a quiet rooftop café or observing a local ceremony, Kathmandu offers endless layers to uncover.

    Khudi: High-Altitude Serenity In the serene village of Khudi, your free mornings and evenings are a gift of stillness. Use this time for gentle hikes through emerald-green terraced fields or along the Marsyangdi River. These moments are perfect for connecting with the landscape, practicing mindfulness, or engaging in authentic conversations with local villagers.

    Pokhara: Adventure & Serenity As Nepal’s adventure capital, Pokhara offers a plethora of independent activities. You might choose an exhilarating paragliding flight, a serene morning of boating on Phewa Lake, or a hike to the World Peace Pagoda. The city’s relaxed lakeside vibe is also perfect for exploring artisan shops and international cafes.

    Sauraha: Wildlife & Heritage In Sauraha, the gateway to Chitwan, your free time can be as wild or tranquil as you wish. Opt for an extra jeep safari to track rhinos or rent a bicycle to visit the nomadic Tharu villages. Cycling through these communities offers deep insight into their unique architecture and ancestral way of life.

    Dear Volunteers, If you wish to challenge yourself with a serious trek after your four-week program, we have curated these top recommendations:

    1. From Pokhara: You are perfectly positioned to start the Annapurna Base Camp (ABC), Mardi Himal, or Ghorepani Poon Hill treks.

    2. The Annapurna Circuit: Since you are already working in Khudi, you are at the historic "doorway" to this world-class circuit. It is the ideal place to begin your journey toward the Thorong La Pass (5,416m).

    3. The Everest Region: Return to Kathmandu and fly to Lukla for the Everest Base Camp (EBC) trek or the stunning Gokyo Lakes.

    4. Tibet & Bhutan: We also facilitate seamless cultural tours to these unique Himalayan kingdoms.
