    Om programmet

You will be part of our Lanzarote crew with the main goal to create awareness of whales & dolphins in the Canary Islands.

The Canary Islands are one of the few places in the world where you can observe and study whales and dolphins the whole year around. There are 94 species of cetaceans in the world, from those 31 can be seen in the Canaries.

Who we are and what what drives our mission?

WeWhale is the first organization worldwide using silent and emission-free vessels to do whale & dolphin observation expeditions.
Our mission is centered on fostering awareness for these magnificent animals. To achieve this, we take our guests on sea excursions to establish a profound connection with the ocean and its inhabitants. By utilizing educational materials and hydrophones, we enable individuals to delve even deeper into the realm of cetaceans, providing an immersive experience for learning about these fascinating beings.

You will be focusing on 3 key areas, including various activities (the following will be subjected to weather conditions and availability):

    Science/Conservation:

    • Learning from our well experienced team members about animal species, behavior, environmental and human stressors and whale watching responsible practices.
    • Searching for whales and dolphins and collecting important data from sightings as citizen scientists (data input into our collaborator’s website)
    • Taking part in weekly beach clean-ups and engaging the local community in our conservation efforts.
    • Taking part in local conservation events (garbage collection, creating green spaces, monitoring plastic contamination)
    • Visiting the Society for the study of the cetacean in the Canary Archipelago (SECAC), learning about their current efforts and projects and helping them in daily tasks.
    Outreach:

    • Educating guests on board about what we do and the importance of cetaceans in the ecosystem
    • Opportunity to practice what you have learned and create impact by preparing a final project presentation about a relevant topic of your choice.
    • Collecting social media content to spread awareness.
    • Participate in educational talks and games in local Schools (once a month)
    Boating:

    • Learning basic boating skills (safety at sea, nautical conditions, knots, etc.).
    • Welcoming, briefing and assisting guests.
    • Participating in marine debris collection, supporting the health of our oceans.
    • Assist the crew in the daily preparation of our catamaran for guests’ excursions.

    Optional/Extra Activities (time off):

    • Opportunity to engage in animal welfare and support local organizations:
    • Recommended Excursions in the island (paid separately): sports, visits, cultural events, etc.

     What’s included?
