    Om programmet

Build a Wind Turbine. Empower communities

Imagine spending your days building renewable energy systems that will make a real difference in the lives of families living without reliable access to electricity.

In this program, you'll become part of the WindAid team and contribute directly to renewable energy projects in rural Peru. Working alongside our engineers, instructors, and international participants, you'll gain practical experience while helping create sustainable solutions for underserved communities.

Whether you're studying engineering, already working in a technical field, or simply passionate about renewable energy and making a positive impact, you'll have the opportunity to learn by doing.

    What you'll do

Throughout the program, you'll participate in two main areas of our work:

    Build Wind Turbine Components

At our workshop, you'll help fabricate and assemble components used in our small-scale wind turbines.

Depending on the current projects, you may work on tasks such as:

    • Building a turbine blade.

    • Welding and assembling metal parts (bases, towers or structures).

    • Preparing electrical components.

    • Wiring and testing systems.

    • Learning how each component contributes to the final turbine.

Our experienced instructors will guide you through every step, allowing you to develop practical skills while understanding the engineering principles behind each stage of the process.

No previous manufacturing experience is required, just curiosity, motivation, and a willingness to learn.

    Travel to rural communities

One of the most rewarding parts of the program is joining our field team as we travel to rural communities.

Depending on the needs of our partner communities during your stay, you'll participate in one of two types of projects:

    Wind turbine maintenance

Help inspect, repair, and maintain existing WindAid wind turbines that continue providing clean electricity to families years after installation.

You'll learn how renewable energy systems are maintained in real-world conditions while ensuring communities continue benefiting from reliable power.

    Solar panel installation

Some communities are better served with solar energy systems. In these projects, you'll work alongside our team to install stand-alone solar power systems for homes in rural communities.

You'll assist with assembling structures, mounting solar panels, wiring components, testing the systems, and helping deliver clean electricity to families for the first time.

Each project provides valuable hands-on experience while directly improving quality of life for the people we serve.

    Who can participate?

You do not need to be an engineer to participate.

Every project involves a wide variety of tasks, and our team provides guidance throughout the program. Participants from backgrounds such as architecture, environmental science, education, business, design, communications, and many others have successfully contributed to our projects.

What matters most is your enthusiasm, teamwork, and desire to create positive change.

    Learn by doing

This is much more than a volunteer trip.

    It's an opportunity to:

    • Develop practical renewable energy skills.

    • Work alongside experienced engineers.

    • Experience authentic Peruvian culture.

    • Collaborate with an international team.

    • Support communities through sustainable technology.

    • Leave knowing that your work has helped improve lives.

Every component you build and every installation you support becomes part of a renewable energy system that can benefit a family for years to come.

Join WindAid and become part of a community of people using engineering, innovation, and collaboration to build a more sustainable future.
