With currently over 100 dogs PEP needs a lot of help with the daily work, such as feeding and walking, maintaining the shelters and finding new loving homes for our dogs.
Perros en Puerto is a registered non-profit organization located in Puerto Escondido, a lovely chill surfer town on Mexico’s Pacific coast in the state of Oaxaca. There is a large community of foreigners living and visiting this part of Mexico.
Founded in 2008, Perros en Puerto (PEP) has made it its mission to help, rescue, provide safe refuge and care for those dogs and to create a community that is more compassion towards animal needs. Dogs kept on hot cement roofs without shade and water or tied up on short chains, others left to roam the street foraging for food, injured by cars, beaten, neglected and/or abandoned by their owners are a common sight. The association is led by Annette who is supported by dedicated local and foreign volunteers.
Most of the funds come from Annette’s (founder) savings and donations. She is supported by volunteers to accomplish taking care of the facilities, rescuing, sterilizing, vet appointments, look for or be a foster home and/or get adopted.
The shelter and dog enclosures are thought out and build for dogs to be in good mental and physical health. Our pups are happy and may stay at the shelter until they are adopted, fostered or pass away. You requested a page that doesn't exist on this site any more. Social Impact
PEP (Perros en Puerto) is a registered, non-governmental, non-profit organization and is funded through donations and Annette's (founder) personal savings. She is currently the only active member that is full time involved in the rescue and care taking of street dogs, organization of campaigns and fundraising. Other volunteers have joined this program from all around the world helping with different aspects such as fundraising, campaigns, animal rescue and maintenance of the shelters.
PEP AC has become a well-known entity in the community of Puerto Escondido, and we have now established working relationships with a variety of services in town. In 2009 and 2010 PEP worked together with the governmental health service (Centro de Salud) giving free rabies vaccinations and anti-parasite treatments to cats and dogs. This was part of an ongoing program to reduce health risks in the communities.
