This is an in-country hands-on internship program with provided shared housing and local team support.
Interns have the opportunity to learn traditional farming coupled with state-of-the-art precision agriculture techniques to combat climate change effects on food production output.
This internship will involve tasks such as planting and maintenance of the vineyard and olive trees: soil preparation, erecting the support structure for the plants, setting irrigation equipment and planting. It is also expected that you may prune and train growing vines, use methods for controlling pests and diseases with regular spraying. During the harvest period you may assist with handpicking grapes/olives or operating light machines/equipment to that are used around the farm. The team is made-up by professional farmers that also use state-of-the-art precision agriculture techniques. The team is also involved with academic projects around Europe, eliminating any language barriers and offering international expertise.
Our agricultural internship program offers agriculture/viticulture & graduates students the opportunity to gain top quality experience interning on the farm. With valuable experience, you’ll develop your skills and understanding of different farming aspects.
A typical working week runs from Monday to Friday, with each day beginning at 8am/9am and ending around 5pm/6pm. During this time, you will take part in a combination of the activities found below:
The placement takes place at Kissamos port town, outside the vibrant city of Chania where many cultural events and activities take place. You have the chance to explore the historical sites of Crete or swim in the beaches around it. During your weekends you can travel to nearby cities, towns or take the ferry to one of the hundreds of picturesque islands.
We will review your application and if we accept you on this internship we will ask for you to pay a non-refundable deposit to secure your place.
The remaining of your internship fees (less your initial deposit payment) will be due no less than 30 days before your internship starting date.
Internships start on Mondays and interns have a choice to participate to a program between a minimum of 2 weeks or up to a maximum of 24 weeks .
For this program the participants need to be physically fit and able to undertake manual labor, enjoy practical activities, work quickly and reliably both as part of a team and independently, have good oral and written communication skills, be safety aware.
The program fee includes a free airport pickup on the Sunday before the Monday start date. To qualify for the free pickup interns are required to arrive between 9am-6pm.At the airport interns will be welcomed and transferred to their housing. For interns arriving at an earlier date, a pickup maybe provided if requested and subject to availability. The farm & accommodation are located at the quiet port town of Kissamos, 30′ drive from beautiful Chania on the island of Crete in Greece.
