    About the program

Join our English teaching program in a rural school near Huancayo, Peru, and become part of a meaningful cultural exchange. The school is approximately 20 minutes from our home, with transportation options such as taxi, bus, colectivo, or even walking for those who enjoy hiking. Transportation is at the volunteer’s expense (around 5–10 soles per day).

Volunteers support the permanent English teacher three days a week, spending around 2–5 hours per day practicing conversation, reading, and interactive activities with teenagers (approximately 12–15 years old). Classes are usually in the morning between 8 AM and 3 PM, with breaks for snacks.

During free time, volunteers can improve their Spanish, explore Huancayo, visit local markets and artisan villages, learn traditional dances (extra cost), and discover the Mantaro Valley through hikes and cultural experiences. Weekends offer opportunities for tours around the Andes or the jungle. We provide guidance, support, and a welcoming family environment where you can enjoy local culture and Peruvian cuisine.

After breakfast, you will take your chosen transportation to the rural school and join the permanent English teacher to support classes through conversations, reading, and interactive activities.

After school, you will return home and enjoy a homemade lunch with the family. In the afternoon, you can relax, explore Huancayo, visit local places, or continue discovering the culture at your own pace.

In the evening, we usually share a traditional snack time (“lonche”) together with tea, cocoa, and bread. You are also welcome to go out and try local food if you would like to explore the gastronomy.

On non-school days, you can spend time with your host family, help with home activities if you wish, or explore the city and surroundings. Your hosts will always be available to support you, help organize activities, and adapt the experience to your schedule, interests, and goals.
