The project Naturaleza Pacuare was founded to 100% by local people from Costa Rica and is also managed by them. Our goal is to preserve the ecosystem in a sustainable way, to support the biodiversity in our country and to protect the sea turtles and others animals that are highly endangered. With the help and cooperation of the local population, we have succeeded in creating an atmosphere in which everyone feels comfortable and welcome. With the knowledge of doing something good and valuable, everyone should have the opportunity to leave a lasting impression on the world.

At Naturaleza Pacuare we know that it doesn't take much to change the world a little. Since our founding in 2019, we have been determined to drive change for the better.

We are a young, motivated and dedicated team from Pacuare. Our vision became a very important mission today.

For this reason we have created our project "Naturaleza Pacuare". Under the leadership of Enid Chavarría Calderón, Alexander Calderón and the local population we have managed to establish a small but good project.

It is a great concern for us not only to provide ecological help, but also to give our volunteers a great opportunity to get to know the typical life of Costa Rica. You will also help maintain local economy.

We have three projects, one deals with care for and monitor any of the sea turtles that nest in Costa Rica, an other help protect Manatees that live from Tortuguero to Pacuare, and the last one is about monkeys preservation.

This project aims to observe the manatees in order to know how they live and to be better able to protect them.

Manatees are back in Costa Rica and have been declared a national symbol but they are still not specifically protected.

Typical day

Our day start with a boat ride for manatees observation and cameras monitoring. It's also the best time to see all animals.

At 8 AM when you come back you will have breakfast

At 9 AM you could start working on camp maintening or beach cleaning. You could also rest or just chill if you need.

At noon we have lunch.

In the afternoon, some volunteers work from 2 or 3 PM and others enjoy free time.

Before night we go back on a boat ride to go on with manatees observation.

If you also want to work with turtle you could maybe do a night patrol if it is possible.

What will we do?

You will take a boat to go on the river to install camaras or to recover them

The goal is to observe Manatees, how they move, what and where they eat, how much they are.

Monitoring them is a way to start help protecting this animal.

You can go and walk along the river or in the jungle, during the day or the night, with a local to see animals.

As we also have a turtle project you could maybe help doing night patrols on the beach to collect eggs, monitor the nursery and release baby turtles when they hatch.

Doing beach cleaning and camp maintenance or any work is a way to help community.

Of course you will also enjoy free time and have fun!
